Off the subject, but did your family get through the deluge okay? I know you're in kind of the same area I am in, and luckily a) I am still in an apartment and my house hasn't been built yet and b) though the houses immediately west of our apartment at Cypresswood & Jones got wet, we did not. As I am only a year old to Houston, I was a little confused whenever they would talk about the creeks and the bayou over here (huh?!): I have no idea where they are. I hope you weren't close to any of those and that you guys are high and dry!

Thanks for the concern, Brandi.

The closest troublemaker to where you are building your house is Cypress Creek. I think it usually acts up further down stream, though.

My "bayou" is Langham Creek, and it has never overflowed as long as I've lived here. The one that flooded I-10 inside the Loop is called White Oak Bayou. That same stretch of freeway was under water three or four years ago.

Out west here, we only received 3 or 4 inches of rainfall. Those neighborhoods where they had to evacuate everyone received between 12 and 18 inches in a very short time.

One of my sons, who lives in the Heights (inside Loop 610) had his car flooded up to the dashboard. We're waiting to find out what the insurance company is going to do about it and when. Insurance agents are busy people right now.
