What is the best way to cut a 2" waste line in a shower that I have no access to underneath. I have seen someone post a picture of a tool that you insert it into the pipe and cut the pipe from the inside out. I am wanting to replace a clamping drain to a kerdi drain. I did a search but could not find anything. Anybody know what I am talking about?

Hey John,

That particular tool is called, surprisingly enough, a pipe cutter. :D You can order them online if you can't get a hold of one locally.

I have also done it by placing a regular cutting wheel on my dremel and sticking it down into the drain.

Thanks! Did the dremel melt the pvc creating burrs? High RPM's?

i prefer these but they sometimes can rattle loose off your drills chuck.

Ricks right definitely have a magnet ready to retrieve said tool from the drain.

You can put a wad of toilet paper down the drain just below the cut line. If the cutter falls out it won't go any further than that.

Yah but then you don't get to do dig it out of smelly old hair infested trap water .. :D

Look at plumbing wholesaler for the pipe cutter.

Mine is by Masters...

I found that the dremel with the regular cutting wheel did create some burrs from melting the ABS, but they were easy to pull off and the actual edges of the cut surface were quite sharp.

Awesome. I will check my homey depot in the morn. For 9-11 bucks it beats cutting up the subfloor. Thank you!
