November 11th is Veteran's Day. To any Vets we have on the board, a big THANK YOU!

My brother-in-law retires this year after being in the Army for 24 years. He took part in Desert Storm, was sent to Afghanistan and then Iraq and is now home!:yipee: He did more than his share in my opinion. We thank you "Jeffrey!"

Patti and I will be dining at Applebee's tomorrow. Hope to run into lots of other vets. I think it's a really great gesture. Veteran's Day has been getting lost in the shuffle for quite a while now. It used to be called Armistice Day, recognizing the signing of the treaty that ended WW1. It was changed to include all veterans past and present.

Of the five brothers in my family, all of us served -- three in WW2 in the Pacific, one during the Korean War (although he did not go over) and I in Viet Nam. My oldest son also did six years in the Army -- no war going on at the time.

I will be eternally grateful to those who have served and those who continue to do so. :)

Theres an ass on a local radio show that got caught by his boss trying to photoshop him and his wifes head onto the body of a service person in uniform, so they could get the free meals.. He said he was going to try and hit up all the applebees and a few others offering that deal..

To be honest, I really think it was staged for ratings, but you never know

How come people don't wear poppies on this day? I remember my father always wearing poppies, and even my uncles. We used to sell them as a fundraiser at school when I was but a wee lass.

A pittance.

Wearing Poppies is a British Commonwealth sorta thing, isn't it? Going back to WWI and Flanders Fields.

Patti and I went to Applebees to get my free dinner. I'm glad we went early. Got there about 4:15, and there was quite a bit of business. A number of vets were there. But by the time we were ready to leave at about 5:30 or so they were lined up out the door. There were some younger vets, but the ones I noticed were all the Viet Nam era guys. You could pretty much spot them by the size of their bellies. Compared to some of them I looked like the thin man. :D

Lots of vets, though. I' glad they all got out for an hour or two. :)

Was honored again this morning. I reported for jury duty, and the clerk asked all vets to stand up. There were a dozen or so, and everyone applauded.

Nothing like that ever happened during the Viet Nam era. How times have changed (for the better). :)

P.S. Flatfloor is also a vet. :)
