What is the deal with these people!!!!???? I'm estimating a small(67sq.ft.) bathroom. The tile(4 1/4 w/dots)was set in a mudbed some 30 years ago,no lath. It's all busted up and has to be removed.I'm going back with a mudbed because there is a height issue due to the wall tile.I called Lowes to get a price on some metal lath..."uh...no...we don't have that" so I called HomeDepot..."nawsir, we don't carry that"....UN*!~*%@#~$ BELIEVABLE!!!! Between these people and walmart I'm ready to pull what little hair I have left...out!

I've been tellin' ya'. BIG BOXES DON'T CARE. They want to carry only products that are out the door before they land on the floor.

But seriously Keith, didn't John say he was buying galvanized lathe at Home Depot?

He sure did Bud.That's one reason I called them.I figured I could get a little break on the price as compared to a specialty store. The "boy" at Lowes had no idea what I was talking about but I talked to an older gentleman at HomeDepot.

Well I'm getting it at the same place I'm getting the sand~n~cement(premixed).Ceramic Tile Warehouse in Jackson.

Maybe the Depot doesn't sell metal lath up there because they figure you Tennessee boys might cut yourself.

I've got a feeling the older gentleman didn't know what you were talking about, although I know that, like a lot of other big chains, Home Depot buys regionally.

I was hired to build a gang shower in Chicago a few years ago. Nobody around there sold vinyl shower pan material. Went to a plumbing supply and they told me they'd have to order it in. And nobody knew what a clamping drain was.

Ended up buying pond liner at Home depot, and got a huge cast iron drain from a plumbing shop.

[You're saying Dave Gobis might jump me for using pond liner? Kick me out of the TCA? I don't belong to the TCA!]

I used to buy it at mason supply houses, (small independants) they not only knew what it was, they stocked it.

Drywall supply(sorry, wall board) shops carry wire lath too...and at a good price, though there is a huge stack at my local Home Depot.

Still learning!!

What is the definition of metal lath? We used a product in England called expanding metal - came in 6' x 2' sheets. The only metal lath I know of is the material used by plasterers to plumb external corners.

The Home Depot in New Braunfels also carries the metal lath.
Have picked it up at the stores in San Antonio as well. I thought this type of store carried the same stock throughout the country, like eating at McDonald's. Its the same everywhere?

John,
That's why I carry a first-aid kit........and by the way....what's up with the slick stuff on the bandaid!? I have to rap it with lectrik tape !

"Expanding metal" is the ticket. The technical term here is expanded metal lath. We put wall mud (render), or deck mud (screed) over it.

Keith, forget the bandaid. Poke a little multi-purpose thin set in there. Get it? Multi-purpose?

Home Depot NEVER knows that they have lath. I have to go find it. I have to memorize the SKU (722-000) because no one can look it up.
