Looked at a small system for the house last year, just a bit beyond what we could really afford. I know the cost pays for itself, but I need a tax credit up front that would create jobs for our small green jobs business. Where is that stimulus money?

There was a 200 or $500 fee to do a one month wind survey of your property to determine if you were a good candidate for the mini turbine. Credited to purchase if you bought.

Well i've been working on this for some time, and there are just now programs coming on line in certain states, such as Mich.Yes the feasibility is slim for just a household, unless you get a big enough system to go (online) and sell your excess power back to the utility company, plus get a 50% rebate from the feds.

I've always wanted to put a solar and wind system in the house. Solar hot water to heat the driveway, too. Then I won't have to shovel. :tup2:

I hope we can make this thread a repository of info on renewable energy sources. Interesting stuff, it is.

If you are into the DIY thing, there is a pretty simple wind turbine that can be built. Don't expect to power your entire house but still could be useful. Here is an article from Mother Earth News with information to get you started - Savonius Super Rotor (http://www.motherearthnews.com/Renewable-Energy/1974-03-01/The-Savonius-Super-Rotor.aspx)
