The fabricator installed honed crema marfil marble slab with a seam at midpoint. The marble on each side of the seam is a different color and is very apparent. The fabricator would like to use a color enhancer on lighter side of seam to try and match the color. If this works, how long will the enchanced side last. I am worried that it will fade and I will be back to square one.

I can understand why he wants to try this because there really is no other alternative except to bite the bullet and replace.

In theory it may work but every marble/stone even within its own kind takes on sealers and enhancers to varied degrees.

So yes it may look good when he is done but as far as it lasting and continuing to blend with the other slab, I would bet it will not be acceptable down the road as the counters get used and cleaned. It really is a Mickey Mouse way to try and fix the problem even if it does work which is why he says he wants to try it.

An analogy to this situation would be like having to wax your car with two different waxes to make the hood look like it is all one color. As the hood of the car is exposed to the elements and washed you will find it is not uniform again. Probably better than it was but will be an ongoing battle.

If he gets it to work which I'm not saying he will, I don't think you will be happy in the long run and this guy isn't going to be around to do his Mickey Mouse fix when needed.

I just honestly don't think you are going to be happy in the long run.

Now if you haven't paid him (which goes onto several other things like did you sign off on the slabs, did he tell you they were not identical or in line with each other; I'm only going by what your side is, I always wonder if there is another side to the story) you could let him do his thing and hold the money for 6 months or so to see how it pans out.

Even if it did work and the enhancer made them look close enough for you to be happy, the two slabs would almost have to be in a controlled enviroment, never used, ect. ect. to keep them looking that way. Do you see where I am going with this???????
