Thinking of putting in a surveillance system on the house and wanted input from yuse all techno lizzards.. Who makes a good "reasonable system" that works?
Thinking of only the outside now but could change my mind.. Florida couple has helped moved this desire to a must have.
Been to Sam's Club and have searched the web for systems but don't have any first hand knowledge and "nice things to have" vs "must haves".. :)

Are you talking some major surveillance? The type those celebrities use where you have TVs inside and you can see what's going on outside?

Or the burglar alarm stuff I see advertised on television?

You guys make a lot more money than us teachers for sure, so I guess you need more protection:D

There's tons of choices. It really depends how much you wanna spend and what you are wanting covered.

For decent IR night time video, you will want a camera with at least 400 lines of resolution. Anything too much less then that and you will have a crappy picture. Nuvico makes decent cameras.

Many many options, from wireless, networked, etc. Definitely get a DVR recorder though. You can set it up so the cameras only record when it senses motion.

Obama is going to outlaw security systems so I wouldn't waste your money.

I bought this one. http://cgi.ebay.com/CCTV-Security-System-500G-9ch-Network-DVR-4-Sony-Camera_W0QQitemZ180300702362QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item29fac2629a&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262&_trkparms=%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A30 I still need to install it. I did hook it up to see how the camera's picture looked. And it had a good day and night picture. The thing I like is that you can expand to 9 cameras. I was a little worried about it being shipped from China, but it got here in 3 days. The best thing is to do your home work on these systems. I spent hours researching them.

This company is one of the better ones offering all kinds of security equipment and if you call, the salesmen are very knowledgable. Give' em a budget and they'll see what can be put together. A bunch of us in the area use them and have been happy with the company and service. Quotes are free. :tup2:

Bruce.. looks like a pretty good company to deal with. I can unnerstand the China thing though.. He has lots of stuff too.. I want to conceal these things around the perifery of the house so's nobody can see easily them..

Dave.... Thankx for the recommendation...

I wouldn't necessarily want to hide the cameras either. They are a good deterrent.

I would have to agree with Mark. If somebody sees a camera, there more then likely to move on and avoid your place.

Every surveillance system worth it's salt operates best with a backup DNA collection device:

yeah, you do . . . determined invaders are gonna trash the camera and come on in. what you do is put up some dummy cameras (cheap) and put the real ones in the knot-hole of the stump (or such). then you got good pics of them trashing the dummy cameras if they come while you are gone. but . . . you still GOT pics.:tup2:
