Seems the entire House of Representatives (429 - 2) rebuked him over his claim that he can ignore sections of a bill he was signing into law.

How often do you get such a bipartisan effort like that?

In his signing statement, Obama claimed that “provisions of this bill within sections 1110 to 1112 of title XI, and sections 1403 and 1404 of title XIV, would interfere with my constitutional authority to conduct foreign relations by directing the Executive to take certain positions in negotiations or discussions with international organizations and foreign governments, or by requiring consultation with the Congress prior to such negotiations or discussions. I will not treat these provisions as limiting my ability to engage in foreign diplomacy or negotiations.”

Sorry LG,

You don't get this information from Dems and Libs. Whats wrong with getting the info from conservative sources? Just because it doesnt fit into the fantasy world of the libs doesn't mean it should be ignored or discarded... :D

once again LadyG declines to address/discuss the issue.

the fact is, this is a lot more interesting than it may appear at first glance. Does Congress have the ability to put conditions on the President's (any president's) power with regard to foreign policy in advance? The way I read the "advice and consent" clause it is clearly intended to be AFTER the fact, not to dictate policy.

of course, we wouldn't have this particular problem if they idiots hadn't passed that farce of a "bailout" bill. :bang:

I thought this would be good to share.

"Every one of us

is called upon, probably many

times, to start a new life.

A frightening diagnosis, a marriage,

a move, loss of a job...

And onward full tilt we go,

pitched and wrecked and absurdly

resolute, driven in spite of everything

to make good on a new shore.

To be hopeful, to embrace one possibility after another -

that is surely the basic instinct...Crying out: High tide!

Time to move out into the

glorious debris. Time to take

this life for what it is."
