OK, compu gurus, I'm thinking of changing my browser to Opera, in a small personal protest of Microsoft. (no, JC, I'm not going to learn a new language to get rid of my Windows 98...)

So, what can I expect if I do change? I'm assuming all my cookies will disappear, and I'll need to start over. I should be able to check my email, RIGHT? Because that's a problem if I can't forward the hotmail account, as I give that out for business stuff. Yahoo is for spam only, so no problem there. What else?

And, while I'm thinking about it, will this affect my ability to upload stuff to my website? (Like I've done that recently, but maybe later..) I can't see where it would, but...

Won't affect upload.

The cookies should be transferable as well as the bookmarks.
If not you can edit you explorer and copy/paste them into opera's folders. As long as you remember your passwords the cookies are no big deal you will only probably notice a couple not there.
With your hotmail password you simply log on and enter your password and your done.

Opera is fast and has some nice features you should like it also it has been redone a little to emulate both Netscape and IE(best of both worlds and cuts down on the learning curve somewhat).

You can expect some of the fancy Java stuff will not work correctly without installing additional plug-ins or java files. But that is getting better.
Give it a try you have nothing to lose and the program size is only like 1-2 megs or so.

If you don't like it there is always Netscape that is as advanced as IE(as far as java crap) although since it was brought out it to is becoming rather commercialized..but at least you can control it better than IE.

Another rather irritaing Microsoft thing and unlike other browsers is even though you remove IE, microsoft will not let you delete all the files and actually hides many files all over your computer and you cannot remove many of them..bastards who do they think they are!!!

"who do they think they are!!!"

They are Microsoft. They OWN me.

Cami, Where is your site. How come we don't have a link to it?

Ok, did it! 3 hour download...Very interesting browser; so far I really like the shortcuts on the mouse- very quick! Some of the the applets aren't showing up. This is the first site I've been to, and I had to log back in. I'll give it a week or two trial, and then decide which browser to delete. I'm just happy that it didn't override and dump my current browser, which is what I thought it would do. (Guess I'm just used to micro$oft inserting itself everywhere..) :D

John, I'm a bit frustrated with a couple of graphics on some of the pages of my website. It was my first attempt, and I did it fairly quickly after getting on the internet for the first time. This winter when I can dedicate a week or three of work to it, I'll redo it. For what it's worth, it's

OK Cami,

Now I'm curious about something.

When you say "Broasted Chicken", is this in fact THE Broasted Chicken using equipment and spices as provided by THE Broaster Company, or is your Broasted Chicken simply chicken that is prepared using the broaster process?

(Please don't take my use of the word "simply" to imply anything negative)

Why, Bud, I would never use the term "Broasted" unless we were an authorized outlet, using the proper equipment and spices! :D Darn good stuff, too!

Good girl.

Would you believe my family had one of the very first "Broaster" operations in the St.Louis area many years ago.

True "Broasted" chicken is hard to find now days and it is the best I have ever had anywhere.

So we're talkin' "Slo Bro" and "Chickite" and all that stuff huh?

Talkin' exactly that, Bud! People will drive a ways for the
"real thing". They have a nice marketing brochure they put out with recipes for broasted everything...Broasted red skins are yummy. None of these are on Sonnie's diet plan, you'll notice. :(

So how did you escape, errr...leave, the family business?

Well Cami, I think the site is very nice. The message is there -- the presentation is direct and appealing.

The graphics appear to be "clip art," but that's okay. People are more interested, I think, in what you have to offer.

And broasted chicken notwithstanding, I can't believe that breakfast buffet at 5.95! I guarantee you if I bring my crew of four up there you'll be out of business in a matter of days. One of my boys (Steve) can eat at least $20 worth every time and still be ready for the lunch buffet, where he'll do at least $30 worth. Seems to be a great place to spend a few days (in summer).

If you want the site included in your signature, just parse the url in using the bb tags. If you want me to list the site on our links page, say the word. You have to reciprocate, though.

John, thanks for the kind words. It's a looooong drive for ya, but, hey, bring the guys and try to put us out of business! We have a lot of crews that eat here, but we usually end up making back the $ in the bar after they're done for the day. :D

I am hoping for a digital camera sometime this year, and then there will be more pics and less clip art. When I redo the site, you will be on the links!

Okay, in that case, I'll make you a link now -- put you on the map, so to speak. :D

Dang it, John. Now I'm REALLY gonna feel like I should be updating the site....Thanks!

As for the browser, so far I am impressed! Exceptionally quick with cached pages. Even JLC loads fast, and that was NOT the case before.

But...my favorite feature is that it opens up multiple pages at the same time. I put all of the sites I visit daily into one folder, and designate that my active folder. When I open Opera, it opens ALL the sites at once! No waiting, just click on each one as I'm ready to read it! Heheheh! Great for all the sites for DS, too. Now I can click from Disney to nickjr to Golden Books to FisherPrice with no waiting, because I can open everything in his folder all at once. :D

Extremely customizable. Most functions can be done on the mouse; for instance "back" is simply holding down the right half of the mouse and clicking on the left.

Only two things I've run into so far: I have to get a plug-in for MSN broadband radio, and I have to use the reload function frequently in BBs to get the latest replies. Minor inconveniences, in all.

OK, whew! That's enough for now. :D

Many of the problems that non-microsoft browsers incounter are due the Microsoft trieng to control the market.
Microsft goes as far as renaming certain nessecary internet file every time they are accessed so that other browers besides IE cannot use them.
There are all kinds of secret dirty tricks Microsft incorporates to discourage use of other browsers.
Browsers are BIG money businesses with all the incorparated links/bookmarks and many ways to dupe unsuspecting newbies is has become the controling piont for internet advertising.
I wonder how much Microsoft gets paid to list a companies bookmark?
Not to mention the links to MSN and Hotmail and other MS companies.

First thing I do when I get a new browser is DELETE the entire bookmark folder.
