California -- bill introduced in february

Well, Duh!!!!!!

Funny how ethics take a back seat to money when folks are desperate.

If Liquor Cigs and Gambling are funding our schools and infrastructure it seems the Pot tax is a no-brainer --

They say it will generate close to a BILLION dollars the first year.

Marijuana policy project is the lobbyist on this one.

Not advocating one way or the other for stoners, but the tax is
a must-do in my opinion.

Irritating it's taken this long to tax pot.:complain:

taxes are always "must dos" for liberals.

but, hey, if everyone's stoned they won't care about no stinkin' budget. and if they stay home gettin' stoned just think of all the state services you won't need. maybe there's a madness to the method.

Besides generating money it will save money.

The cops and courts and jails won't have to deal with pot criminals.

Another good thing is that legalization will remove a revenue stream from the gangsters. Of course, it will just move some of that money in the form of taxes to another criminal organization, the guvment, but hey, whatcha gona do?:usflag:

Awhile back numerous states actually issued Marijuana tax stamps. They were supposed to be applied to different packages of weed in the same way that you see them on ciggarette packs. It was another way to charge dealers and users with yet another crime; i.e. not paying state revenue tax. They were challenged in an Arizona case by someone who had actually used the stamp on his product so when he got to court he argued that by properly affixing the stamp and paying revenue to the state it had legalized his marijuana.

Yes, there is a proposal to tax soda as well.

Dems to reveal how they'll pay for healthcare

As for raising money, ideas have included a national sales tax, taxing soda and a "surtax" on people making more than $250,000.

I believe at the moment, there is a proposal to tax every thing that exists, including people, you know, for their carbon footprint.

I wonder how much extra carbon, pot smokers emit. :loaded:

Keep taxing cigarettes higher and higher and pretty soon people will be breaking into homes to get money to support their habit like they do now for cocaine and other illegal drugs. The mafia is closely watching and for sure they will be there to take over the slack. I don't smoke and I don't do cocaine. Just my thought on the subject. Lay off on the taxing BS.!!

weren't the kennedys bootleggers?

maybe the next great political family will rise bolstered by the fortunes
of the illicit pot trade.

ya know, trouble with taxing pot is that it's so easy and cheap to produce . . .

it seems, in many respects, it'd be like taxing home brewers . . .

I'm still in favor of taxing it.
