Hey everyone. I have some questions concerning sealing and enhancing stone floors. I have limestone tile floors in high traffic areas (foyer, hallway, kitchen). I suspect the floors were not properly sealed when they were installed about a year ago, as they are impossible to keep clean and stain very easily. I've decided to have them professionally cleaned, and then to reseal them with a really good quality sealer. I am also thinking of using an enhancer to bring out the colors a little. I have been looking at the Stonetech products, and have the following questions:

1. I was going to use Stonetech Bulletproof under the assumption that it would provide the best stain protection. But I've seen some threads here suggesting that the Stonetech HD sealer, or the Stonetech Enhancer, would provide the same level protection as Bulletproof. Is this true? If so, I'd go with the Enhancer. If not, I'd opt for Bulletproof without enhancing.

2. Sealer instructions typically say you can apply a second coat if you wish. Is there any reason you couldn't apply a third coat if you wanted?

3. I tried to get an idea of what my tiles would look like with the enhancer by wetting them with water, but they actually look identical wet to dry. Does this mean enhancer will have no effect on the tiles?

Thanks!

Do you have any idea what type of limestone you have, what the name is?

I would personally choose Impregnator Pro over Bullet proof

as far as the enhancer goes, this is to darken the material. it will keep the dark color the stone has when it is wet. I would not suggest an enhancer unless this is the specific look you are after.

If you are having your floors professionaly cleaned, it might be worth it to have it professionaly sealed as well to avoid potential headaches.

I personally dont like bulletproof or the HD sealer, but I feel the Impregnator (NOT enhancer) Pro would be a good choice.

you can put 25 coats on if you wish, and depending on the limestone you may actually need up to 6-7 coats. just make sure each coat is buffed thoroughly and allowed to dry at least 30 minutes in between.

sealing is no lickety-split deal. it takes patience and time.

I am currently working on a limestone floor that is taking 1 gallon for every 300 square feet.

Thanks for the reply. I don't know what kind of limestone it is, only that it is honed, not polished. I'll check out the Impregnator Pro. What is it you don't like about the Bulletproof?

Everyone has their preferences, and each sealer works different for each person. I have done extensive testing with sealers and have a handful that I consider worth using, and Bulletproof is not one of them.

you will get various opinions from different people. My recommendations are not the be all end all, they are just my recommendations.
