One of my oldest and best friends passed away last week.
Off to his service here shortly. I only post to remind you
drinkers to keep it in moderation. He drank himself to death
literally. He had been going to a therapist and taking medication
to kick the habit of drinking large amounts of hard alcohol. He
had realized after a doctors visit that his days were numbered
but it wasn't in time. His girlfriend had called him on a friday and
he never returned her call which was unlikely. She had a bad feeling
and called the police and asked them to stop by and make a welfare
check. They found him in his bed. Its really sad, but unfortunately
it is what it is. He was only 39

I'm sorry that you lost your friend, Jack. How awful it is to be powerless to stop someone from self destruction - but we usually are.

I am so sorry to hear about your friend, and to die at such a young age. We never know what demons people deal with.

I too am very sorry Jack. A couple of my immediate family members continue to battle that same demon and I wonder literally every day if I am going to get the same news you got about one of them. It is so sad.
That is terrible to read about. I always get a sick feeling in my stomach hearing that people are able to drink like that.

Thoughts & prayers are with you and families Jack - sorry for your lose. Remembering the good times helped me with the greiving more than being pissed at her poor choices...
I'm sorry to hear that, Jack.
I'm sorry you lost your friend Jack.
It's a shame when you loose an old friend that way because they are so hard to come by.

A very sad story Jack. While we are all responsible for our own actions, it doesn't make it any easier for those we leave behind. My sincere condolences.

Thank you for all of your comments and thoughts. It really means
alot to me. We have lost a whole bunch of friends and family lately
it seems. Losing my friend didn't effect me as much as my family
members passing has. Regardless its still a shame. I really feel for
his family, knowing what its like.
My step father says the older you get the longer the list gets, and he
reads the obituaries every day because he never knows when another
one of his friends will be listed.
I have lived in this house for over 10 years now. Neighbors on both
sides have become really good friends. I knew we had lost alot of
folks in the past few years, but it didn't really sink in until I made this
list.
