I just installed porcelain tile on the floor and shower walls of my bathroom and would like to give it a thorough cleaning before I start using the bathroom. Any suggestions?

Hi Sanj, Welcome! :)

If there is no grout film or excess grout, many times a simple cleaning with a tile & stone specific neutral pH cleaner. Using a microfiber towel for cleaning and another dry towel to buff dry works well. Check if your wash bucket is soiling during the cleaning. When it starts to get cloudy, change it immediately.

John,

But what if there is a residual grout film that won't wash clean with a sponge? I have a similar situation where I have both porcelain (shower walls) and travertine (floor) tiles, and on both surfaces there is a light film or haze that won't come off. I've washed it over and over with clear water, but the haze keeps coming back. Surprisingly its worse on the porcelain, maybe because its a different grout product. I expect that I'll need to try some specialty cleaning products, or maybe some more elbow grease. Any advice?

Hi Mac :)

Normally we like you to start a fresh thread with your particular project. I'll let this one slide for now, but I may need to split if off later.

The only time to remove the initial grout haze is before it dries. You can be currently experiencing anything from cement to latex haze, or both. I would start with a TEST of vinegar and water in a small area, and see what it does.

Report back and we can go from there. You can also TEST some acetone if you have any. Use caution, as acetone is very flammable!
