Any idea what kind of spiders these are, Clyde (or anybody)?

They weren't much bigger than a pin head when I took these pictures.

I am already regretting reading this thread. I have a completely irrational fear of spiders and almost panic when I see them, I would probably have a heart attack if I came across that many spiders at one time.

when I moved to Florida years ago I stepped on this big spider in my driveway.
as I smushed it I would say about 100 little dots took off in all directions....baby spiders.
needless to say I Napalmed the area with Raid fast :D

Thanks Brian! I'm not too surprised. I see the adult versions in webs around the house later in the summer. As long as they don't string their web across my doorways, I'm OK with them.

Dave, my lady came across one like that a few months ago. It was a stumbleupon science website and they documented the spiders on different drugs, that was pretty interesting.

No real idea what species they may be. Brian could be right.

I'm the opposite. I like snakes actually had them as pets as a teen, but can't handle spiders at all.

Isn't there a song about spiders and snakes?

Since were identifying lil creepy crawly's, here's an interesting caterpillar that seems to find its way to my tomato plants every year.

What bug laid these eggs? I found these in my lawn.

Rick: You get an A+ for the tomato hornworm ID. It's amazing how they can get finger size before you finally spot them on the tomato plants. You see the damage and all of their droppings, but they blend in so good. I'm not sure what the little black critter is. I can't get a good size reference. I thought spider at first, but can't see any obvious head region. Some kind of tick?

Dan: Those "eggs" look like slime mold beginning to form on the grass. It may stay like that or it may congeal into a large, ugly mass. It looks terrible, but won't hurt anything.

No, you need to do what JB says and wipe down the grass after every shower. :)

yep it's Slime Mold (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slime_mold). It does not directly harm grass or plants.
since they most often occur during wet weather, they disappear rapidly as soon as it dries.

I used to get it a lot on a small palm in the front corner of my flowerbed where the water used to run off the house a stay a little damper then normal. it sometimes turned black and your grass probably will in a week. it isn't harmful and will dry out.

Dan, I guess you have been having a few wet days lately ?

Some of my baby spiders have grown up. Here's one....

Not much of a spider enthusiast either but some of them are pretty cool. We had a cat face spider (named her Charlotte) living on our house a few years ago and I would catch flies and moths to feed her. She got to be huge. The body was about the size of a quarter. And in the spring we had babies ... almost brings a tear to my eye. Unfortunately, my pig wanted nothing to do with her ... so we ate the pig :D
