What's the next number in this series?

1.1 , 10 , ??? Is this an algorithm? Or an exponential curve?

Is the answer 90.9? This has to do with a discussion with a GC who wants me to discount my prices, which I'm not doing.

Thanks in advance- gueuze

it could be.. or a more linear approach is 18.9...

What do I win?

I don't believe it's either of them there, Gueuze, I believe it to be a bodarkskullian transformation in the technical sense.

How you fixin' to git you a curve when you ain't got but two points?

How much this GC tryin' to beat you outa? That's where your formula aughta start. :D

18.9 is what I'm saying. Don't know that has to do with discounting prices

Sorry, there are 3 points, yes. The first is zero.

Well, a while back I rounded a price down from $910 to 900, no biggie. (1.1%)

This new bid was $1,200 and he's thinking it's worth 1,080 (10%) I had given the bid so i'm thinking he didn't just come up with his number, just knocked 10% off mine.

I'm just saying that the slippery slope just gets steeper, and then I'm on craigslist.

So 0 , 1.1 , 10 , ?

Better?

Tell'im you actually figgered it was worth $1333, Gueuze, but you figgered he deserved a ten percent discount then just rounded it off. :)

There's a fairly recent thread about this very thing somewhere on here. That kinda hagglin' never does anybody any good, seems to me.

I'd just 'splain him he axed for a bid and you gave him one and if you'd wanted to do it for less you'da bid less. He'll surely see the logic in that. :shades:

...i'm thinking he didn't just come up with his number, just knocked 10% off mine.Maybe an assumption, but that's what it sounds like from here. :)

jim tell him to take the 10% off his mark up on the tile hes providing to the customer and leave your labor as is!!

Yep, What Jason said. And do be sure to tell him to make sure to get a number from you before telling his clients he'll do it for such & such, just bad buisness IMO. You shouldnt be put on the hook for his mistakes. Ive done it with subs before myself and ate any mis calculations cause I know good subs are hard to find and keeping your word with a client is crucial.

for every percentage point off your carefully and diligently prepared quote

you'll take off the same % of your warranty, so one year is now under 11 months

Seriously, the quality of your work is supposed to remain the same,
likely, better than most setters as evidenced by your presence on the forums
and you are supposed to take the hit because?

Oh the economy, materials and labor are cheaper . . . gas prices are lower
you need the work -- that's irritating

I'd lower my price by ten % if the builder had all his supplied materials
unpacked stacked and adjacent to the install area

man the stuff folks take for granted:crap:

like the mantra says -- get what you pay for

I'm sure all the math guys can attach an appropriate algorithm to this
situation
