I was watching a show on the history channel Sunday(March 9) about some ancient stone work and experts who study "possibilities" of higher intelligences intervening with early man due to astonishing building feats. Now Its not my place to say one way or the other but I thought Id share what I seen.Basically the show was covering the more common "early'' man's stone marvels such as the pyramids of Egypt and South America, moai statues of Easter Island, and of course Stonehenge.I learned that one of the Mayan pyramids had the exact dimensions(widths)as the larger Egyptain one..But what really caught my attention, and lead me to share with you guys was a pile of large stone structures scattered next to some pyramids in Bolivia. At one point and time these were intricately cut stones interlocking to form some large wall or somethin. Some of these pieces were cut into H's and locked together vertically(some weighing over 10 tons/stacked).The detail and precision of the cuts/90 deg. and long straight lines were remarkable even for todays standards. One cut was like an eighth '' wide 1/4 '' deep w/holes drilled in precisely every 2''straght as a laser more than 10'.Being one that cuts, shapes, bites, drills, and polishes stone,I was very impressed, and somewhat in disbelief.I personally think it would be impossible to accomplish this w/hand tools. The most unsettling thing about this is the type of stone used was granite and diamonite-the diamonite can only be cut with DIAMONDS.....these stuctures were dated about 16,000 years ago...interesting....

I saw that show too or one like it. I personally don't believe higher intelligences intervening were involved.
I know this sounds uncomparable to which you are talking about but I was making a horrific wrap around jamb cut once. The power had gone out so hence no power tools. I was like how in the world am I going to make this cut?
One of the setters I was working with said use your nippers. I laughed and laughed some more. He said thats how we used to do it in Spain, that and a chisel with hammer. I said you have to be joking. Well he proceeded to make this cut with nippers and yes he did break it the first time but succeeded on his second try. He had been setting tile and stone for over thirty years in Spain.
I'm pretty good with a pair of nippers but this guy was a God. If memory serves me right the cut was like a horse shoe with part of it being slightly less than a half wide and four inches long. He claimed he could make a hole in stone as (like for shower valve) well with a chisel and hammer but I never got around to seeing that.
He could also make chess pieces out of the marble (after he laminated) in about 20 minutes. They just weren't polished but they sure were nice. He did use the wet saw for that. Saw him do it a few times while on lunch break.

I am constantly watching History and Discovery. I get mesmerized by this
stuff lol. Its amazing that there wasn't more left in writing, err go the architects
blue prints and chisel instructions that fell outta the packaging

Just wanted to update this thread I started a while back. Here are some pics I got.
These first ones are of the great Egyptian pyramids, their location (lattitude/longitude),proof of N,W,E,and south. And also pictures of a Mayan pyramid which is exactly the same dimensions as the Egyptian.Keep in mind both were constucted under vastly different time and distances......

One theory for Stonehenge is that they dug holes for all the vertical blocks, pushed the blocks in, put the horizontal ones on top and then dug out all the surrounding earth until the vertical blocks were on grade instead of below grade.
I think the 'higher intelligence' involved getting thousands of people to do all that pushing and digging for the privilege of not being killed.

Heres some pics of that site in Brazil called Pumu Punku. These ''machined'' pieces are cut out of diorite(can only be cut w/diamonds).They are dated at 17,000 years ago......One collapsed piece(rectangle) ways over 700 tons!

Actually,Jack,I just take pictures w/my Blackberry right in front of the TV.
Heres some more pics. Some of these are depictions of those the "H" looking structures interlocked together to form a wall. The last picture is one of that 700 ton collapsed pieces. They say there was something that caused it all to get shaken up/perhaps an earthquake?

Not only is the fact that these diorite stones were cut precisely w/laser accuracy amazing but to cut this 700 ton piece out of the earth and raise it.This is would be close to impossible today let alone 17,000 years ago.Its just baffling.....

Bloody typical Architect. Specify a material that is almost impossible to obtain and takes so long to work correctly you are likely to die trying:bonk:

Some more shots of the "machined" stone. These laser sharp straight lines are precise to the millimeter.Id like to see the finest stoneworker today acheive this w/the highest grade steel hand tools. And what about the holes "drilled" inside.......:uhh:
