Considering getting it for our three pups. Just looking to see if anyone of you have it and if so, what company. If not, why not?

I haven't looked at pricing, but I imagine it'll be more like exchanging money than a tyical group health insurance plan. Few owners means the insurance company cannot spread the claims across big population.

Hmm...My concerns are big ticket items like ACL and hip issues. But routine care is also far from cheap.
I am looking at http://www.embracepetinsurance.com/.
$26.76 + 14.96 ea
• Annual Maximum: $5,000
• Annual Deductible: $200
• Co-pay (per claim): 20%
• Accident Coverage: Yes
• Illness Coverage: Yes
• RX & Dental Illness Option: Yes
• Wellness Plan: Yes
• Microchip Discount: Yes
• Service Dog Discount: No

I should mention they also raise their rates 10-15% on average on renewals and as any insurance can drop you.

Check and see if there is a Banefield near you. It is more of a wellness plan but it saved me a lot of money.

If you do the pet insurance thing, you'd better decide before any of them visits the vet for a possible tumor. I had a rather large tumor removed from Boomer a week after my premium cleared and they canceled the policy altogether.
Cheers.

Scott what company was this?
As for Benefield I have heard enough bad about them not to consider it. Either way I am not looking to change vets

Is the price you listed per month or year. Sems rather high for a monthyl. It's domthing we talk about occaisionally but never seem to get around to.

Are you serious? I WISH it was per year! :yeah: A regular vet visit here is 50 bucks. That's no meds, no procedures, just to see a doc. So, yeah, the price is per month per dog.
I did read the wellness coverage again. I think what I missed when I saw it the first time is that the max yearly benefit is $200. Considering it costs 14.95/mo or 150 a year that portion of the coverage does seem to follow Bob's money exchange theory. The fact that Embrace even offers that as an option makes me want to look elsewhere.

Maybe those dogs aren't prone to dysplasia, and ACL and similar probs are more of an issue with athletic dogs, like frisbee catching. Both of my frisbee dogs ended up with knee and/or ankle problems.
I wouldn't opt for insurance, but I have 2 vets in the family : ) and my local vet gives me a nice discount.

My Aussie shepherd broke his leg jumping like that. Landed on a root. Hours catching the disc with no problem, then a little jump up and the right foot landed wrong. In a cast for 6 weeks. Had to keep him crated for the entire time. He did recover well and went back to chasing frisbees and tennis balls.

I actually think the unknown in our terrier mix is in fact rat terrier. From what I read about them and pics I have seen, I am convinced.
