Hello to all!

Finally found the new thread button. Slate question, I don't have any expereince with this kinda slate, I know they're all different, I about have all of it down, well most! Using 24" X 16" Gold Slate from India, guaged, 1/2" thick. This stuff is heavy! First when I go over it to get the light cement haze off, should I just use water, or is there a safe cleaner for slate I can add to water, make it a little easier. I usually use AquaMix products, more importantly, what Sealer do you recommend for this slate, any recommendation, AquaMix, gold? thanks and you all have a great weekend and stay warm!

Try not to get stuff on it it'll be much easier to clean. How does plain water work?Try wiping things off as you get it on the tile.If you do ned to use sulfamic acid try some on a spare piece to see if it fizzes, or etches,i don't think it will but test first, some slates contain calcium. If you do use the acid you'll need to rinse with a little ammonia in the water to bring the ph back in line in the stone before sealing. The Gold is fine, but i would use an enhancing sealer myself.

Dave,

thank for your advice, I am cleaning while I go so very little needs to be cleaned up, so probably can get by with just water. Question on the enhancer, why do you recommend it? You mean enrich-n-seal by AquaMix,
will that darken the slate, that is my main concern because she likes the color of it, but I don't want to darken it make it look wet. When you say an enhancer will it do this, and would you make a recommendation on an enhancer. thanks!:D

It will slightly darken areas but will mainly bring out the color, but be careful with the grout.Try a test area,Enrich and Seal is good.

thanks Dave, I have a quart of Enrich-n-seal I could try it on one
a the pieces to see how it looks, I was just afraid it would darken the slate
too much, I would do that on the slate, then grout and seal the grout with AquaMix Gold, is that what you mean to not "enrich" the grout? thanks again!:usflag:
