This is Russell,
Last fall I installed Sandstone Rainbow Teak tile on my kitchen counter. I sealed it with Stonetec Sealer. I used black grout (big mistake and did not test it much bigger mistake). I had to leave it alone for a while in order to regroup. So now I am rady to go again. First--NO black grout. I have the tile set in Ditra. I think that I am probably going to have to remove the plywood base as I doubt that I can achieve a good flat surface otherwise (any thoughts on this aspect are welcome). My goal is to seal the tile before installing. I have experimented with an acrylic high gloss surface sealer (Aqua mix) versus the penetrating sealer. I have run a test trial and applying many coats builds up a smooth solid impenetrable layer which is what I desire. I am interested in any and all feedback /suggestions.

thanks for a great forum
Russ

Well Russell,i think we need to go to some basics about stone. Some stones aren't meant for some applications.I think your stone is not the right stone for a kitchen counter, it is too soft as you found out.If you have to apply many coats of an acrylic to so called protect it you have to realize the acrylic is even softer than the stone and will be a headache to try to keep nice...sorry,but if you want to try it go ahead,it may work out.

Dave,
Thanks for your reply. I surrender. Thanks for ruining Christmas--and it is only January. perhaps I can use the sandstone as a backsplash. I so dislike wasting materials.
