Ahhh, the joys of holiday shopping. (http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2008/11/28/2008-11-28_worker_dies_at_long_island_walmart_after.html)
Yeah, I'm not a black Friday fan. I got up early and went once about 15 years ago, that was enough for me. I'll go later on, pay full price if I have to to avoid that mess. :shake:

Damn New Yawkas are mean, aren't they? :)
Kidding, of course.
It's getting pretty ridiculous, I'll tell ya. Wednesday afternoon people started camping out in front of the Best Buy stores here even though the stores would not be open on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday) and would no open until this morning. Can you imagine sitting in front of a store nearly 40 hours?

Yo Alex.
JB- not new Yorkers, Long Islanders. There is a big difference. Unfortunately quite apparent when you meet them. :uhh: Or perhaps more of a statement of Wal-Mart shoppers.... or the state of the economy, in which case I'll assign blame to your former governor.
Christmas-y, enough to make a fella break out in song-
"Here at the long Island Wal-Mart, fa la la la la, la la, la la.
There lies trampled some dead old fart, fa la la la la, la la, la la
And an injured pregnant lady, fa la la la la, la la, la la
See how much cash I can save me, fa la la la la, la la, la la."
Perhaps I should stick to grout songs.....

That's why I shop online and watch that Big Brown truck come to my house with my gifts.

I'll just say that not all Long Islanders are like the selfish assholes that caused this.

Alex- just a bit of a good natured ribbing.
I really can't blame Long Island or the economy, as this has happened a few times in the last few years in different places. Possibly not even at Wal-Marts.
Like Michelle Obama, there are times I'm not too proud to be an American- this is one of those times.
There is a huge lawsuit here for the family. I wonder how OSHA feels about creating an unsafe workplace environment.
I went shopping today, bought a hundred shovels of gravel to fix holes in the driveway. a gift for my family and all who come to visit us. I need to go get another hundred tomorrow.

Gueuze,
Ridiculous things such as that happen in other countries too ... difference is that the Wal-Mart employee in Germany has health care. :)

Health care ain't gonna help the dead man, or the dead baby.:shake:
I am always proud to be an American. A few hundred morons at a Wal Mart has no bearing on my patriotism.

Maybe even in Albany? :D
There have been idiot shoppers for more years than I care to mention. As a young girl when working as a cashier I witnessed the throngs of people waiting to enter the store for Washington's Birthday sales. The mob scene when the store opened was ( to me ) disgusting. The only problem today is that as the population increases, so do the idiots that create larger mob scenes who are looking for a bargain.

There is a huge lawsuit here for the family. I wonder how OSHA feels about creating an unsafe workplace environment.it ashame that Walmart didnt hadle it better, but they probably wernt thinking a bunch of uncivilized idiots would trample the doors down for "roll back" prices at a Walmart store.

First Wal-mart and then this? :shake:
Associated Press
PALM DESERT, Calif.–Two people were shot to death in a crowded toy store yesterday in a confrontation apparently involving rival groups, city officials said.

I wonder how OSHA feels about creating an unsafe workplace environment.Be rational here. Should Wal-mart have been expected to call for the National Guard to police a sale? It was an isolated unfortunate accident by an unruly crowd. The poor guy could have had a heart condition but that in no way excuses the crowds behavior.

The California toy store thing was supposedly NOT shopping related...

Yeah, the details are still sketchy
I kinda wonder what kind of morons start a gun fight at a crowded toy store full of kids? If it wasn't shopping related, what the hell were they doing there? :shake:

Valley Stream is right on the city line. :)
JB, I'm guessing those campers in front of Better Buys are a publicity stunt we had some here too.
