Hey folks,

I just wanted to tell everybody that I am moving from Indianapolis to Chandler (Phoenix), AZ. Yes I am. Why? My partner, Mittie, is from that area and she wanted to go back. We talked and prayed about it a lot and came to the conclusion that that is where we should be. So, Oct 4th we started driving all her stuff out there and got there on the 9th of October. Yes, we took our time and had a pretty easy drive of it. No more than 8 1/2 hrs driving a day. I flew back on the 13th of October and have been trying to get the house ready to sell or rent since then. House for Sale, Indianapolis, IN (http://krhoa.com/latona.htm) I am going back on Nov 24th - Dec 3rd for Turkey day and such.

There are a few people on the board that knew about this before I announced it. Marge and Dave, I got ahold of Marge as soon as I had an inkling that we would be moving. She is there reason that I have the website for the house, THANKS MARGE AND DAVE! They have been a HUGE help and support in ALL ways. Also I told Mick from TLS because of some other reason.

I figured this was the right time to tell everybody on the board what was going on and why I haven't been on the board very much. Just consumed with work on the house and looking for a job in Phoenix. Speaking of job, if anybody knows somebody or has ANY contacts in Phoenix for a job prospect email me at peharris@ww.com and I will send you a copy of my resume (can't attach here, file is too big).

I'll still be around.

Pat

It's kind of weird how huge a thing this is in your life, but how little a difference it will actually make in your relationships with all your friends on the forum here in cyberspace.

All the best of luck to you a Mittie. I sure hope that everything goes real well for you both.
Remember that you don't need to pack the snow shovel. Just leave it there.

I can get my tile saw in the back.....the backseat folds down :uhh: really it does. Then just put the "HandyWOMAN" magnet on the door. And like Bill says, you just need a bucket of tools.

Remember that you don't need to pack the snow shovel. Just leave it there.
Oh yeah the snow blower is for sale too!

Thanks to all, I won't forget you.....how can I forget this cast of characters. And with cyberspace I'm still right here!

Guess Patti and I will be seeing you out there next spring/summer. :)

Pat, back in the days when I was moving around the country I always ditched the car and took my truck and my tools. You sure you can get all your stuff in the bug?

Good luck in Phoenix. We lived there from "94" to "02" but finally left because of the growing congestion and to get back closer to family. Had some great years there. If you're in the vicinity of 32nd St. and Greenway Rds, look up "American Discount Flooring". Its run by a couple of down to earth guys from New Yawk. They fed my a lot of work when I lived there. Tell them Rick the Eagles fan from Tile Rite sent ya. Have a safe trip.

Rick, Thanks for the heads up on them New Yawk guys.

Good luck in your new home, Pat.

I lived in Tucson during my high school days. I liked it more better than Phoenix. It took me a couple of years to get used to the blistering, blazing, scorching, sintering heat. But the winters were nice, no complaints there. :)

That area has sure changed from 20 odd years ago. Visited there in 06 and it seemed like all city from Phoenix to Green Valley. No more barreling down the washes in the Jeep chasing jackrabbits - now it would probably be someone's back yard ... and their cat. :D

That area has sure changed from 20 odd years ago.5th largest city in the US. Most folks gasp when I tell them that, but it's true and headed for #4. Remember that you don't need to pack the snow shovel. Just leave it there. but don't assume too much. Some snow shovels can do sand very well. The one "yard" tool I sold by mistake when I left Michigan turned out to be my chain saw.

Sitting in airport in Phoenix for my last trip back to Indianapolis before I move. It is set in stone, I will be leaving Indy on the morning of the Dec. 16th to drive to Phoenix; I will be towing the VW on a car trailer (not a dolly). I should make it to Phoenix by the 19th, 20th at the latest.

As a side note I will be posting some items for sale starting tomorrow on eBay. Not much left that I want to sell on eBay b/4 I move but I will have a tile cutter, green case and some Ditra (3 rolls of 5m), not trying to compete with Tile Experts! I'll let you know. The other stuff that I have for sale will be on Craigslist in Indy

Just looked at the weather in Indy, now 43 going to 27 with snow/rain. Also will be 16 deg tomorrow......brrrr..... It is now 70 in Phoenix and it was about 74/75 earlier. I will be in the deep freeze for the next 12 days...hopefully it will be good weather from the 16th through the 20th.

House is in limbo but I should have it sold.

About the only good thing about moving is that it forces you to take a long hard look at everything and MAYBE decide that some things aren't worth the effort. Of course I have been in the same house for 30 years now and have to rent a storage unit to keep everything. My excuse is that when Frances and I got married we combined two households. We keep getting rid of stuff, but still need to do more.

Best of luck on your move, Pat. I don't envy you doing it in the winter.

12-05-2008, 09:40 AM
Thanks every one!!

Yeah Doug it is very hard to move, I have lived in the same house 22 yrs and have lived in Indiana for 28 of the last 30 years. Hard.

Clyde, you are right about all the stuff....but when Mittie moved in I got rid of a lot of JUNK. She's a military kid and you know they only keep what is necessary. I was in the attic a few weeks ago and started on it but then moved on to other areas; the attic is mostly boxes for stuff that I have in the house. Also the attic is cold now...it's only 16 deg here now.BRRRRRRRRRRRR....My mini-barn will be hard too because of the cold and the materials I have in it.

Oh well, 7 days to get it all packed, then the fun starts.

Yes, as you can see from my "Location", I'm here in Chandler. Left Weds, the 17th around 12:30 pm and pulled into Chandler around 6:30 pm last (Friday) night. I drove 15 hrs on the middle day because the day I left I was stuck in traffic behind an accident for abt 45 mins. which put me in St. Louis at rush hour. So I only got to Springfield, MO on the 1st day. 2nd day I drove from Springfield Mo to Albuquerque NM (15 hrs). Yesterday from alb. to Chandler.

So I am here in new diggs....time to unpack :uhh:

Better get used to traffic, Pat. I remember that part of the valley being quite congested and that was when we left, over 6 years ago.

Thanks Marge....I think I just made the window of opportunity in every part of the country. Show Low, AZ which I came through is having a ton of snow, a Phoenix newscast team got stuck up there-had to spend the night. Indy is getting a wintry mix, other parts of the lower midwest are getting "wintry" mixes...it's just horrible.

Wet but warm here in Chandler.

Ozlo,

Xmas in Phoenix was fine...now if we can just get the small details under control. Went to the storage place on the 23rd and it was leaking. Talked to the guy minding the shop today and he's not sure what to do :dunce: , so "the manager will be back Sunday at noon, you'll have to wait until she gets back" not happy. This storage unit has insulation in the ceiling and it's all wet in the insulation.....

Just a small detail you know. I put a tarp over most of my stuff and started on plan B: I went to ck out another storage unit. Let's hope it doesn't rain anymore.

Otherwise Xmas in Phoenix/Chandler was great. Got a great replica of Purdue's Ross-Ade stadium as one of my gifts. No snow, just a little cool but that was OK. VW's running better and I can ride my bicycle everyday when I want to. It's OK

Thanks for asking Ozlo,
Pat

Pat, we did get a bit of snow at the cabin. Not what was expected, but enough to make it a snowy holiday. Our dog sitting guest Schnauzer Gunner hates rain, but he was all over the snow this week.

Pat,
I lived in Phoenix in 1978. at that time chicago got hit with massive snow storms. Phoenix got masive rains. only two bridges were open over the river. mill street and one highway bridge. have the rains been ok for travelling?
a bike sure comes in handy when the bridges are down.

btw, what are you doing for work? are you still the Handywoman?

olzo

12-29-2008, 09:29 AM
Marge, Glad you didn't get as much snow as planned. Your house guest looks like he/she is having a great time.

Ozlo, I'm not sure about the bridges, I haven't been to Phoenix proper yet. I'm living in Chandler; we've gone to Scottsdale but did the freeway. I know nothing about Phoenix yet.
For work, for the time being I'm looking for a "real job" , in safety or human resources. I say that "real job" tongue in cheek because I don't think people realize how real it is to have your own business. Oh well that's what I am doing. Thanks for asking.

Also got the storage unit thing straightened out yesterday. Spent 3-4 hours moving everything from the 10 x 15 storage unit we had to a 10 x 20 storage unit.....at the same place. While I was cooling my jets my partner Mittie was talking to the manager and swung a deal of the bigger unit for the same price as the smaller unit plus 1/2 off next month. And the new unit is outside the gate so I have 24 hr access. Sweet! My partner is the greatest!!!!

Pat,

Depending on how long you've been self-employed it's very possible nobody will want you. I know for sure nobody in his right mind would give me a real job. I'm way to independent and have a really hard time taking direction. :D

Scott, Hope things continue smooth for you also. Your new place sounds great, wish we had our own. Boomer looks like a winner too!
Happy New Year!
