John,
I have been worrying about this for years! Well the Boss Lady finally gave me the evening off, so I thought I would ask for an answer.

Why is the "pointy trowel" such an important part of your life. I remember down in Orlando, when we both were alot younger, you said you never went anywhere without it ( I assumed you meant work, but maybe not ). What do you use it for?

Do you just load your notched trowel with it, or are there secrets to be revealed to a guy who went out and bought one, the same year you told me too. Carried it one day and then hung it in a spot of honor out in the pole building and went back to my old margin trowel.

Anyway please put my angst to rest and reward my curiosity with your sage advice.

By the way this is a serious question!

Thanks, Mike

ps: CX please do not move this to another mailbox - I don't think anyone else really cares.

psps: John, Bev and I are sorry we missed the BBQ, I hope you at least got us a couple of T-shirts.

C'mon, Mike, everybody has to have some sort of trowel for backbuttering tiles and for prying tiles off a floor or wall to be reset, for moving tiles around on the wall to get them aligned. I call it my "primary" trowel. Mine happens to be a gauging trowel. The blade is about seven to eight inches long and it's rounded at the tip. It's not pointy at all. A sharp point might poke a hole in my Kerdi membrane. :)
