About a month and a half ago I finished one of the houses for this great organization. Homes for our Troops is a charity that builds and donates houses for our returning troops and their families. They do this for returning vets that have been severely injured. All the labor and material is donated and our injured men and women and their families can at least have a brand new home to move into to take away some of the burden. It's great work!
You can check out their website here: Homes for our Troops (http://www.homesforourtroops.org)

I did all the tile as well as the fireplace for Matt and Tracy Keil's house. You can read his story and check out pitchers here (http://www.homesforourtroops.org/site/PageNavigator/SSG_Matthew_Keil). They are great, great people.

I would encourage everyone here to donate any time and labor that they can if at all possible for this great cause. No matter what your politics or opinions of the war, the men and women that return injured need all the support we can possibly give them. This is a great way to give something back in appreciation. You don't even have to do the whole house, just do a room if you have time. They do this all over the U.S. and are always looking for guys to donate material and labor. There is a map on the site under "homes" at the top. You can see if they are building one near you. If you can't donate time, setting materials or tile are greatly appreciated also.
You can also contact them through the site and give them your name to contact you if they are in the neighborhood.

:usflag: Give it a shot, it'll make you feel good! :D

I also strongly recommend working with them.

However, do NOT leave your tools in their conex boxes or illegals will clean you out too.

Go, work, then leave...taking all your tools.

Greg, you're right! The only one that doesn't think so is my wife and I'm pretty sure she has her doubts when she sees me in the morning.:D

It weren't nothing special. These people deserve so much more than I could ever do for them. It's not very often guys in our profession can make a true difference. It's one of the few ways I'm able to give back in a positive way. (Other than arguin' politics with you :D)

Thanks Dave, it really is a great organization. I keep preachin' that but it is a very hands-on way to support our troops and these guys love to go have a beer with you too! Crazy bastards. :D

Thanks to all of you who are involved with this. There was something on one of the news shows recently about this. What a way to thank our veterans who have given so much.

I visited the Vietnam Veterans' replica memorial on campus today. Found my cousin's name and a high school classmate's name. But for the grace of God and luck of the draw I could have been on that memorial. I'll have to admit I shed a few tears when I visited the original memorial in D.C. quite a few years ago and again today when I found their names. What a contrast between when the survivors of Vietnam came home and had to change into civilian clothes in the airport to avoid protesters and today when people cheer them in airports when they come home. Makes me get real emotional.

Hey Brent,
Dunno where you are in New Jersey, but here are two:
There is one in Union Beach: Here (http://www.homesforourtroops.org/site/PageServer?pagename=MikeMinard)
There is also one in Hillsdale: Here (http://www.homesforourtroops.org/site/PageServer?pagename=Cpl_Visnu_Gonzalez)
They both still need flooring. If you scroll down the page you can click on the link to give them your info and donate your services.
Thanks!

Thanks Roger,
I've just signed up as a volunteer also. If they get a project going here in Washington, I hope to hear from them. I built a roll-in shower room for a Habitat For Humanity project last Easter and that was a great experience.
