Whats the set up time with mastic

I'm use to using a quick-set thinset, and being able to grout in a couple of hours.

Mastic or Thinset.....which one ?

if you mixed a powder quick-set thinset, depending on the manufacturer it could be set up easily in an hour.

He's saying that he's accustomed to and understands the timing of using quick-set thinset mortar. But now he wants to use mastic for the first time and needs to know how long to wait to grout.

Brian already gave the manufacturer's spec of 24 hours. :tup1:

The stuff stays pliable and viable in a bucket from the factory for probably a year or more. That's because it can't dry out. Put it between a big porcelain tile and a dense surface, and it could take months to dry, if ever. It depends very much on the tile, size, and type, and the substrate you are applying it to.

Woodie says he has ceramic tiles, so they would absorb some moisture and help it set-up in a resonable amount of time. :)
