Customer pulled this out of her junk drawer in the kitchen. Says it was new 5 years ago when we did the major remodel. I'm back now doing one of the other bathrooms.

No manufacturers markings of any kind, not even a "Made in China."

The steel rod thing is an allen wrench. I quickly thought it to be some kind of carpet tool or vacuum cleaner accessory.

We're stumped. I told her I knew of a place where there was a huge breadth of knowledge, but that I'd post it here instead- :lol1:

Anyway, here it is-

Umm, It's about 3 inches long. Thanks in advance for any feedback, constructive or otherwise.

Looks like one of them things Yankees uses to scrape ice offa their car windows. With a special, removable attachment for..................hell, I dunno what it's for. Yankees is weird, though, could be for most anything. Maybe it's their version of a cork screw. :D

It's a sewing tool used for un-snagin' the business end of a sewing machine.

That's my story an I'm stickin' to it.

That is a Klingon comb, circa 3040 AD. How it came to reside in a homeowners kitchen drawer is perplexing. A flickering, small worm hole perhaps. The allen wrench device is actually a mini lazor capable of producing a hole the size of a grapefruit through a plate of 1/2" gold plated latinum. The comb itself can be spun/thrown at an attacker much like the deadly "ninja" star.

It's a combination wax comb / fin key for surf boards. :)

Yup tom beat me to it. If any one is curious how it works.. Glassed in fins were replaced years ago by a system of removable fins held in place by a small allen screw. Now if you break one you replace the fin and not an expensive board. The comb is used to re-texture the wax on your board which is used to give you traction when standing on the board. The two sharp looking sides are used when removing the wax . a flat one for the deck and the funky curved one for the rails. Funny this was posted today....the tropical storm is kicking the waves up pretty decent here in new jersey this week. .......Why that was in a drawer in albany?>>>>>>>>>>>

First off- thanks to everyone for pitching in, I had assured the customer that the John Bridge brain trust was a force to be reckoned with.

Tom Hulse- - how did you know that one? Personally, I was kind of hoping the Klingon comb thing was the right answer.

As to the surf on the Mohawk river, that was an early Dutch sport in these parts that ended with the building of the Erie canal. The customer actually lives on a big hill overlooking the Schoharie creek, so I'm guessing that they're just prepared to ride out the wave if the Gilboa dam ever gives way. Can't say that I've seen a surfboard around the house, though.....

We checked the thread today @ lunchtime on her mac and had a chuckle, I'll be sending the link to this thread to her, perhaps she'll register and explain how this gizmo ended up in Middleburgh, NY. Perhaps tsunami gear from some time spent in Singapore.

No I'm not that smart, lol. :stupid2: I just did a quick Google image search for [comb "allen wrench"].

Tom,

Coming up with the right Google search terms is a skill unto itself these days. I consider myself pretty darned good at it, but you bested me today.

What? Not hangin' ten in the Puget sound?

I did sped a week just south of the company's place in Merrimbula about a hundred years ago, nice.

google map link (http://maps.google.com/maps?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hl=en&tab=wl)

That was more windsurfing than surfing.

OK Tom
So what do you actually do with it?

I was hoping it was proof of alien life so that there was a chance of getting off this planet, guess I'll just have to go surfing instead.

Customer named Edna (aka the Bayou Vamp from up North) pulled this out of a junk drawer in her kitchen..... says she's had it for 5 years or so.

No manufacturers markings of any kind, not even a "Made in China"..... although they prolly wouldn't own up to makin' it anyway.

It could be some kind of carpet tool or biffy cleaner accessory.

We're stumped.

I told Edna I knew of a place where there was a huge breadth of knowledge.... but that I'd post it here instead.

Here it is and..... what is it??

Dave,

If you had watched the Brady Bunch in Hawaii episodes, you would not have disturbed that trinket. There could be trouble ahead for you. :uhh:

My guess was going to be some type of tool for working with caulk. Peircing the tube, smoothing the bead, removing old, etc.

Shoot! I got excited when I saw the pics. Thought I could help but I see it didn't make it in time. Haven't been able to use one in a little while too damn busy sticking tiles. OK Monday I snuck out for an hour thanks to tropical storm Bertha, but that's it.
If I ever figure how to resize pics on this Mac I got, I've a bunch a tile pics to share.

Customer claims to never owned or ridden a surfboard, but did live in Hawaii 20 years ago. She's stumped, so I guess the wormhole theory is back in play.
