Funny Starbucks Story
We shop at a Safeway store that has a Starbucks in it. In the produce section there was these bright yellow little peppers the other day and I couldn't resist and had one!
It just lite my mouth on fire so I beat a hasty retreat over the the Starbucks and poured about two inches of milk that they have set out for folks to prep their coffee in to a cup to try and cool things down. By then my mouth was ON FIRE!. This old lady who was working the counter just went off on me for stealing their milk! Told me she was going to call security etc etc.
To say the least I didn't order the iced latte I was going to get after I had gained some control of the fire in my mouth.

I wish they would close the one my wife goes to, save me a bundle. :) She likes the frozen drinks, Frapichinos she calls them. I drink real coffee all year long. I do like buying Starbucks coffee at the store and mixing it with Folgers about half and half. Seems to make a real good cup (pot) of coffee. :)

These guys are mostly Midwest and Florida, but I buy most of my coffee from Gordon's Food Service. I buy the whole bean Italian roast. I grind it with a coffee mill (not a chopper) and use a percolator. I can get a 2 lb. bag for $10 on sale, and it's every bit as good as Starbucks (which I think is good but costs too much).

4 dollar a gallon gas. Who can afford a latte?? :) Hence the closing of 600 stores. No more economic hay day... :)

I don't like coffee so I don't care however my Daddy loves his Starbucks. I didn't think our would be on the list and it wasn't. Two reasons, the next nearest Starbucks is about 60 miles away and it's franchised (owned) by the local hospital which would not give up that particular cash cow.

There's more to it than gas prices. McDonalds and Dunkin' Donuts are giving Starbucks a run for their money. SB has somewhat disconnected from being a "coffee house" and became the fast food of coffee with all of their non-coffee and pseudo specialty coffee drinks leading the way. Those who truly look for specialty coffee are finding it in independently owned shops who are sourcing phenomenal green coffee and skillfully roasting it to enhance each variety's flavors, whereas Starbucks has a tendency to roast everything very dark. Hence, Starbucks sells a lot of high fructose corn syrup drinks branded as a "coffee drink" to the fast food masses. McDonalds and D Donuts are now geared up to get a piece of that very large pie.

My last conversation at Starbucks:
I d like a large coffee.
you mean a verdi?(or grande or what ever they call it)
No I want a large.
Thats what we call a Verdi.
OH ok--Yep I want a large.
so you do want the Verdi..
No I want a large.
Thats the Verdi.
you call it anything ya want ,but I want a large.

Then she started in on some flavor of the day.
I want a large coffee,just good old coffee.BLACK!

You seem to want sour grapes with your Latte, too, Eric. :D

Order a Schiene or a Rondec next time and tell us what you git.

But first, tell me how you pronounce Schiene.

NEW YORK - Coffee chain Starbucks Corp., which is closing stores and cutting office jobs amid weak sales in the U.S., posted a loss for its third quarter on Wednesday, lowered its outlook for the year and said it would open fewer new locations.

But the company kept its profit guidance intact for fiscal 2009, easing investors' fears about the economy's effect on the year ahead.

The Seattle-based company reported a loss of $6.7 million, or 1 cent per share, compared to a profit of $158.3 million, or 21 cents per share, a year earlier. Starbucks said it earned 16 cents per share once the costs for restructuring and closing stores are excluded.

Starbucks hasn't a clue about making good coffee. Their "drinks" remind me of soda pop or liquid dessert in a cup

It's time they shut the doors.
