Hi Edward, I'm not a pro but I'd add the word poultice to your search. Hang on for specific info from others though. :)
I pewt soap ring into the Advanced search and got a buncha hits, Edward. Looks like a poultice of baby powder and acetone is popular, at least with our old friend Marizio. :)
And I'd recommend you continue to blame the grandkids. Hell, what good are they to have around if you can't blame them for stuff, eh? :D

The ring you have in your stone is a result of the oils in the liquid soap.
It is easy enough to remove, but will take some time and perseverance.
First, you will need to take a brush (an old toothbrush will be great), wet the area and scrub to remove all soapy residue. Rinse it often and well. This should already help lighten the ring. You are not done yet, though. Now you will need to poultice the oils out of the stone.
For the poultice you will need:
White paper towels with no ink prints
Home improvement strength acetone (NOT the wife's nail varnish remover)
Saran wrap
Wide blue painters tape
Take a wad of paper towels and place them over the stain. They should cover the entire stained area. Wet them thoroughly with the acetone. Do not stop and light a cigarette now. It could be a problem.
Quickly cover the wet wad of paper towels with a large square of Saran wrap. Be sure to seal off the edges of the wad of paper towels. They will be your poultice. The Saran wrap will prevent the acetone from evaporating . Seal the edges of the plastic wrap with the blue painters tape. Leave this whole mess overnight. Remove the plastic wrap and let the acetone evaporate. Remove the towels. Your stain should be gone (or at the very least considerably lighter) now.
If it has not gone already, repeat the poultice until the oils have been pulled out of the stone.
You will have to reseal the granite because the acetone would have poulticed the sealer out too.
Get a drip tray for your soap dispenser to prevent a recurrence :D
