I recently sold a high polished marble floor to a client, when the installation was done, we noticed there were dull spots all over the floor. I'm wondering if the grout had anything to do with the dulling of the polished floor. Any experts have any idea what happend?

Could be anything Joe, maybe other trades spilled something acidic, maybe someone wiped areas with a sponge that had something acidic.Could it be shadows from under the stone from the still wet thinset,or if it's limestone, maybe it's iron oxide shadowing. What kind of stone?

What kind of grout (sanded?) What was used to remove the grout haze from the tile (50/50 water and vinegar?)

Pictures and some more details would be most helpful.

The product is a high polished marble from Turkey. It was not cleaned with vinegar, just a bucket of water and very little palmolive dish soap and a rag after the installers washed down the grout with a sponge and water. NON-SANDED grout was used for the joints. All my samples don't have this problem of dullness and spots.
Thanks for the responses

Maybe gray thinset? Maybe that stone is full of holes and the thinset underneath would be only millimeters from the surface in one of the craters and is forming a shadow.

No, it's really on the surface of the tile, most tiles lost thier shine. there's no holes in this product. but i'm sure you're right in your first response Davestone, about the dirty sponge.

Hi Joe,

Try some hot water in conjunction with some white paper towels, if this does not help we can go from there.

im pretty sure hydroment grout's latex admix says not to use on marble not sure why or if you used a grout and mixed it with water or pure latex a second thought is did you show the client a showroom sample of the marble certain browns like emperador and some of the crema types and up with alot of fillers that do not show the same level of high polish as the actual stone surface it esp. shows up when viewing from an angle in direct sun .......showroom type samples are always perfect
