soft/powdery shower grout after 1 year?!

i noticed yesterday that the unsanded grout in our new shower/tub surrounded has gotten very soft and powdery. the project was completed over a year ago. i had the grout packaging the installer used so i know it wasn't thinset or something else. it was sealed with a stonetech sealer later. any ideas on why it would get soft and powdery at this stage? i can scrape it out with my fingernail. after all the frustrating of remodeling this isn't bringing up good memories. any help is appreciated. thanks.

I looked at a job awhile back with the same problem,coulda been grout mixed too wet,old grout,sealer kept it from curing, i dunno.At this point though it will be easy to scrape it out and regrout, you're only choice.

thanks. i just assumed that was our only choice. still doesn't mean i'm looking foward to it. oh, well . . . the fun never ends.
