Hi, I have a long involved post elsewhere, after a nightmare remodel we are almost to the point of grouting and sealing a travertine shower and floor in our bathroom. My question, the tile man is to come today and do the final grouting on our travertine. He then plans to wait 30 minutes and seal the travertine and grout. According to the grout box, it is supposed to cure for 3 days before the sealing. I plan to tell him he can't seal today, he will be mad (I think because he doesn't get paid until completion and he is anxious to be done) but I will do it if I know that I need to wait. DOES IT MATTER IF YOU WAIT TO SEAL THE TRAVERTINE AND GROUT UNTIL IT CURES, OR IS IT OK TO GO AHEAD AND DO IT? Thanks as always for any help!

Hi Carol -
There are some sealers on the market now that advertise they can be used on fresh grout. If your contractor has one of those I suppose it will be ok..
Most sealer products require a grout cure time, usually of 72 hours.
Unless the sealer is designed for wet, fresh grout, you should wait the proper cure time. Applying sealers too early can lead to a possible blotchy appearance and could also affect the strength of the grout.

I would wait as George has suggested.

I can't find a cure time on my Laticrete sanded grout box or online on their website. Does anyone know where I can find this information?

Thanks once again, everyone! It actually worked out fine, I told them I wanted it to cure and they said sure, no problem, be back Monday. As you the Laticrete question, have you tried to find a company website? I'm constantly amazed by what's available online. :)
