I believe the Aquamix is non-sheen, is the 511 also non-sheen? I am looking to darken the grout just a tad, going to do a test on both. Will these start to shine if I add a second coat?

Hi Byron :)

I have found that most enhancers when over applied will start to develop a sheen.

I am currently using the 511 with first coat applied. I am applying the 511 extremely liberally on the grout with a 1/4" brush attached to a small bottle from HD. Then I wiped off the excess and it didn't leave a sheen. On a test piece I found it will leave a satin sheen if it is not buffed off.

Miracle 511 enhancer is a penetrating sealer, in my experience it leaves a mat finish. Miracle's mira matte will get more gloss with each application.

Gary is correct about the 511 Enhancer. It does leave a matte finish. Sorry, I was thinking more towards glossy with the term sheen. No sheen on my grout. My tile and grout still maintains a natural look with deeper color. I am happy with it so far. Will see how it weathers.

Will post some pictures soon. Have too many irons in the fire!

I decided against the enhanced sealers as the grout is not 100% uniform in color and I do not want surprises:uhh: Damn grout color seems to have a mind of its' own. I went with the Aqua Mix Sealers Choice Gold. I have had good luck with this stuff so I just went with what I know. I put two coats on the wall joints and 3 coats on the floor 2x2 grout joints. I found the extra effort on the floor grout really stands up to daily showering.

What a PITA. It took me a couple hours each time to put the sealer on, wait 5-7 mins and remove. The walls are the worse as the sealer runs down the face of the tile and you have to wipe it all off or you will get dried run marks. I learned about those on the other bathroom wall, I had to go over those marks with some sealer to make the marks disappear. Oh, use latex gloves as that sealer does a number on your hands.

I found it easier to have a digital timer in there with me so I could estimate how long the sealer had been on the grout. Since you have to move to different parts of the shower you need to remember where you started so you don't remove sealer that has not been sitting long enough. Well I guess it's not an exact science, I was wiping it off between 5-7 mins with paper towels and then going back over with a cotton towel. I think the tile gets sealed a bit also because when you start wiping the sealer off some gets on the tile, even when completely drying it will leave some on (at a microscopic level) which I guess isn't that bad since water beads up on the grout and tile nicely.

glad that's over and I hope it will be years before I need to do it again.
