Hi all!
I have purchased a marvellouse mosaic travertine for my backsplash. It is fairly rustic, with small voids in the travertine surface on any given tile. The mosiac is very small and very linear -- the average piece is 1/2 inch high by 3 inches long -- in reds, yellows, and whites.
The place that I brought it from recommended sealing the tile prior to installation. I have done so, with a color enhancing sealant. It looks amazing in the box!!!
It has yet to be installed.
SO, my question is:
How does this get grouted without filling all the little rustic voids in the face pieces of the moisaic? Or is this a simple case of accepting it for what it is, and not worrying too much about what gets filled in?
I have heard of "Grout Release" -- is this what it is for? And is it too late to use?

Hi Maya :)

We usually fill the voids in with grout. If the voids are left open, it will leave an area for soil to accumulate. Obviously, a backsplash isn't going to soil like a floor (except behind the stove).

If you choose to fill with grout, I suggest careful selection of the grout color(to blend with the multi color of the tiles).
