I have always heard that you could balance an egg on end on the spring and fall equinox. One of my sisters has talked about doing it every year for a long time with her family. Well, we tried it this year . . . and guess what . . . It works. It took several tries to get it just right and then it balanced perfectly.

Here's the proof.

Clyde, you can do that any day of the year.

If anything, this is an example of the power of belief. I bet people are more successful at standing the egg on an equinox because they believe that they can.

We used to stand eggs all the time at the restaurant (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=1309&l=90a09&id=1071416362) (Sauzer's Waffle Shop - gone but not forgotten) I worked at while I was in high school. We learned a cheater method when we ran out of patience. You can balance the egg in a small pile of salt, and then gently blow away the salt that is not helping to support the egg.

Now, that begs the question. Is it easier to balance an egg on the equinox than at other times of the year? :uhh:

I think Clyde smooshed one of those raisins under the egg to give it stability. ;)

Nope! No salt, no raisins. Clean counter top and clean egg!

You just have to get the little chicken in there to move to one end. Acts like a weeble...wobbles but it won't fall down. :D

dab of super glue and an egg sticks anywhere on its end.

we used to balance all sorts of things with some salt under them, then blow away most of the salt and only a few grains of salt would be holding it up.
