I am looking for former Air Force officers that I can talk to. My youngest daugher got accepted to Air Force Academy this week.

I'm really proud of her and her mom is suicidal. I did four years in the Army as a pfc and hated every second of it, so she didn't get this from me, although I've totally supported her and guided her through the process. She is totally stoked and we've been running, lifting weights, and hitting the gun range every week, too. The wash out rate is anywhere from a third to half and she is totally commited to the self denial process, if for nothing else to show up her brother and her mom. She is 17 years old. She reports to basic the end of June. Same basic training as enlisted men, maybe even worse, since they expect more from officers. She has the opportunity to get her jump wings if she makes it through BCT.

We need to find out more about life in the Air Force as a junior officer, women in the Air Force, etc. The Academy liason comes around next week, but I'd like to talk to actual officers in the Air Force, not the Academy propaganda machine.

Any of you guys out there former Air Force officers?

Scooter,
Congratulations to your daughter! Assuming the liaison actually graduated from USAFA, he or she will be able to give you a good idea of what to expect. My father graduated with the class of 1969 and made it a 20-year career. He would still make it a career if he had it to do over again. Advise her to continue with an exercise routine. She ought to be ready for rote memorization, recalling information at a moment's notice.

Cheers.

A friend of ours had a son who graduated with honors a couple of years ago. You must be very proud. Mom will get over it when she sees her girl in uniform on the parade grounds.

That's great, Scooter. Tell her congrats from the crazy online folks. A young man I became friends with from our church is finishing his first year there. I'll scrounge up his e-mail and ask some questions. We talked last time he was in and the classroom stuff was killing him, the PT wasn't all that bad. :)
