Dave, that's the most fascinating thing I've seen in a long time. Goes way beyond clever. You can almost see the ancients doing it that way. :)

Yeah, i knew it must be something simple, just took a guy with too much time on his hands to figure it out.Found myself looking around the site and got hooked on watching how bump keys work, also cool.

It's both a key and a method to "pick" locks, most often used by criminal types. Google "bump key" and you'll get the complete skinny.
