This is a mess.
The DNC threw down the gauntlet last year to Florida and Michigan saying that if they advanced their primaries the votes won't count. Who knew? Both candiates agreed to this by the way.
The DNC Super Delegate process has been the rule for 20 years now, and yes, those votes count 50 times more than the average delegate. Both candidates agreed to this.
Assuming the DNC does not broker a Michigan and Florida do-over (long shot), the Michigan and Florida delegations will show up and will have to present their credentials to the Credential Committee for admittance.
Both Obama and Clinton want to break the rules. Clinton wants Florida and Michigan votes. Obama wants the Super Delegates to go away.
Or they work out a ticket deal. Obama probably has the upper hand on that score.
Stay tuned.

For what it's worth, Hillary's name was actually on the Democratic primary ballot in Michigan. Anyone who voted as a Democrat on January 15th could choose Hillary Clinton, or uncommitted.
None of the Democratic candidates campaigned in Michigan, but only Hillary opted to leave her name on the ballot.
It may be a mess, but it doesn't concern me - or at least it shouldn't. The Democratic Party is a private organization of which I am not a member.
EDIT: Well, according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michigan_Democratic_primary,_2008) , I am mistaken. Democratic voters could choose among Hillary Clinton, Christopher Dodd, Mike Gravel, Dennis Kucinich, Uncommitted, and Write-in.

The DNC has proven time and again that election rules are for Republicans. Why does the current mess surprise anybody? Consider -
- the DNC suing to replace Toricelli with Lautenberg in 2002 for the Senate race
- Al Gore suing to change the Florida rules - after the election
but in 2006 the GOP could not get their candidates' names on the ballots to replace the late-withdrawing Foley and Delay - and they did NOT file suit.
remember the '68 DNC Convention? That was the one that saw Humphrey get the nomination. And he did it without participating in a single primary.
this reminds me of Lucy holding the football for Charlie Brown. when will Dem voters learn? :bang:
