someone gave me a question to answer and I just don't have the mind today to even start to figger it out.

How can 4 red marbles make up 1/3 of a group and 3 blue marbles make up 1/4 of the same group??

thanks

If the group of marbles is 12 and there are 5 marbles of any color but red or blue.

the group also has 5 yellow (or any other) colored marbles. 12 marbles total 4=1/3, 3=1/4

I got beat!

thanks guys. that's what I was thinking after I posted it. 5 more making a group of 12.

with the question they make you think it had to be just those marbles, guess you have to think outside the box.

it gets worse, this was a question for my brothers 9 yr old kid in class.....lol

Let X equal the total number of marbles. Since the blue marbles is 1/3 of the total, then 4 = X/3. Solve for X: 4x3 = X = 12. Do the same for red: 3 = X/4, X = 12.
