My customer, for whom I built a fine casa 20 years ago, and for whom I'm re-doing some kitchen cabinets, has gone to Homer's and looked at some granite she thinks would be nice on her island top.

Is called Stone Mark, from Innovative Stone. I have found a website for it (I think), here. (http://www.stonemark.com/) Anybody have experience with this rock, in particular the claims of it being a "natural no-stain stone"?

I tole her I wouldn't buy stone tops from Homer, but that I wasn't at all familiar with that particular product.

Hi CX :)

I just read that MIA has a report on this stone. Let me see if I can find some info for you. Maybe Steven will chime in about it.

Hi CX :)

I haven't found the info that I was looking for. After reviewing their website, it just appears this company is using select granite, and other natural stone, and treating them with their special process and offering a 15 year warranty (against staining) with the Permashield process (providing you register your product within a specified period of time).

I have no idea of the pricing. Seriously, it looks like a well marketed way to stand out from other distributors and fabricators. Considering some stones don't even need to be sealed or "treated", I wouldn't restrict myself to this company.

Just sounds way too much like marketing and too little like stone fabrication to me, John. And the fact that it's to be installed by Homer, or someone selected by Homer, makes me pretty skeptical. Could be a decent product, I suppose, but I worry.

She said they were talking in the $50 to $80 per square foot range (installed), so it wasn't advertised as a cheap alternative. Real granite guys in this area told me to expect $60 to $90 a foot, depending upon what stone she selected.
