I wonder if anyone can tell me anything about this stone. It has a honed finish. I imagine the spelling should be Inca Basaltina, but Basiltina was how they gave it to me. Just received a request to look at it. Apparently several rings, they're calling them water rings.
Any info at all would be helpful, I know nothing about this one. Thanks.

Hi Tom -
We have a distributor who sell a stone called Inca Grey. When I looked at the slab sizes I suspect it is a Basalt which, in Italian, would be called Basaltina. There is a lot of stone at suppliers in Europe called Inca Basaltina and it is from China. I might suspect this basalt is acid sensitive.
Although basalts are an igneous rock like granite they are extrusive and often have other minerals mixed in that a true granite would not. I know of one Chinese basalt in particular which has enough Calcite in it to be acid sensitive... drink rings, juice spills, etc. all show...
They can often be refinished.
The only other Inca named stone I know of is Inca Blue, a limestone that etches like crazy....

Thanks George.
If it was acid etched then that might refinish easier, but if it was oil rings (I doubt it's really water rings) then do you all have any experience with those? I'm wondering if they are generally shallow enough to remove easily?

Hi Tom-
Oil will be a dark ring, etching usually is lighter or white..
If it is oil a poultice product will pull out the stain. Oil would be easy to remove, just time consuming... you would apply the poultice paste and let it dry for a couple of days then scrape off the dry material and evaluate the results. Deep oil stains can take two or more applications...
