A contractor found $182,000 in antique currency when gutting his friend's bathroom. How do you think the money should be split?

It should be split according to the wishes of its owner.

if it's in his house it's the homeowners property by law.
I don't think the contractor should be greedy,
maybe ask for a kindness percentage for finding it.

There's no question on where the money belongs. Not even a bit.

most definitely, thats like going to a car wash and having the guy vacuum out
your car and he finds your wallet and wants part of what's in it....lol

The homeowner offered a 10% finder's fee. Seems pretty nice to me! He's suing for 40%. I do give the guy credit for calling the owner when he found it... I guess he could've taken it and not said a word. Some people I know are that dishonest. :(

I'd give the contractor the 40% and then give him all the bills in the house as well..

When I was a teenager, me and another guy were installing fiberglass installation in an attic in Houston, mid summer - that was unbearably hot.

Anyway, we found, stashed away in a corner of the attic a small metal box. It was really heavy so we opened it up. It was full of silver coins and had a rather large stack of Franklins on the top. The other guy wanted to pocket it. I suggested telling the General Contractor. Turns out, the homeowner, an oil tycoon, had stashed it up there several years before and forgot about it.

I was kinda hoping for a big tip when we finished the job, but, the homeowner just thanked us. Oh well, maybe good karma will smile upon us some day.

Its better to keep a good friendship and one's integrity than sell it for greed.

It belongs to the property owner. Greed is not nice and honesty is always the best policy.

It should be split according to the wishes of its owner.Like Dan said. I do, however, think the current property owner could have been a bit more generous. After all, it's found money for her (the current owner) also.
I wonder if there are any relatives from the true owner around that can claim the money?
