So.. i've been around a few months.. and whenever I've quoted someone saying something here i've always had to type [ QUOTE ] (without spaces).. Am I seriously blind (do wear glasses) or am I just missing the quote button on each post?
..Going insane, I like to quote people. Was this removed due to abuse?

Hi Ken. Yah, we had a period of time there where some users would quote a page and a half message complete with pictures, just to add a comment like "Nice work!".
I got annoyed enough that I took away the quote button. Now if somebody really wants to quote, they has to work for it. :)

Sounds good to me Davem. :)
I just wanted to double check that I wasn't going insane and no longer knew how to function on a forum. I understand completely why it was taken away and sort of expected to hear this reply.
Thanks mate; er Fellow Michigander.
But there is still a quote button just above the dialog box where you type your replies, Ken. Second from the right. Looks like a cartoon balloon.
I find it most useful if you've seleced Enhanced Mode.

There is a quote button. After you hit the reply button there are a bunch of choices you can choose. The quote button is in the line below the font, size, and color choices. It is the second to last button. I hope this helps. :)
Oops!! I see the experts have already answered this for you. :o

I see the quote button after you get to the reply dialog page, however I was looking for more of a person quote, quoting what they say and retaining their name. I got my answer, no sweat. I dont mind doing it the old fashioned way. :)
Thanks all.
I dont mind doing it the old fashioned way. It's real easy to just scroll down and copy and paste the pertinent part of their post once you get to the Reply dialog box, Ken. Then just highlight and hit the balloon.
I quote quite regularly and rarely ever hafta type the [quote].
Still gotta type in the name, of course.

Thanks Ken - something I have also wondered but never thought to ask!

Thanks CX - now I know there is a better way! You never quit with the teaching , huh? :clap1:
Dave - I had never thought about the "inconvenience/annoyance" issues that quoting could bring about - thanks for the heads up! :D

I think quoting is wonderful, but using it as a reply button is not. :D
It's good form to atribute your quotes, John. After the initial word quote, and within the brackets, add an = sign and type the name of the person you're quoting. Thus:It's real easy to just scroll down and copy and paste the pertinent part of their post once you get to the Reply dialog box, Ken. Then just highlight and hit the balloon. The first brackets look like this: (with no space before the =) Or you could be even more graphic, as in:[QUOTE=CX, Master of the Internet]It's real easy to just scroll down and copy and paste the pertinent part of their post once you get to the Reply dialog box, Ken. Then just highlight and hit the balloon.Axe DaveM to 'splain you the absurdity of that last one. :D

While we're on the subject of TYW's quirks, how many posts do you haveta get before you have access to that secret, strikeout font that Marge and Jim make regular use of?
I'm talking about where the words appear but theres a line drawn through them, sort of like in the ancient days when someone might write something on paper, in ink and then decide to 'line' it out during editing? I want that font.

I can't believe it I've searched font sites 1/2 dozen times looking for that and there it was hiding in plain site in the reply box :smash: :bang:
It's the Underline button, Steve. I think DaveM hacked it to make it a strike-through button long time ago.
