Hi all
I just installed granite tile on my kitchen countertops and put the sealer on today. I used aquamix ultraseal from HD and following the instuctions on the label and put six coats on it.
The grout lines are sealed good, the water beads up on it and does not soak in. The granite on the other hand seems to still absorb water. I place a spot of water on the tile and it appears to bead up but turns the tile darker at the spot. After I wipe the water up the dark spot lightens up after about thirty minutes.
Have I done something wrong or am I using the wrong sealer or is it just cockpit trouble or is this normal.
The tile is gold colored from China.
Thanks in advance.

I called the tech support people at Aqua Mix and they told me I should have used Ultra Solv instead of Ultra Seal. He said it was OK to go over the top of the water based Ultra Seal with the solvent based Ultra Solv. Has anyone done this or can anyone recommend another brand that would be better. I would like for my granite tile not to darken after a water glass or spill gets on it.
Thanks
Ricky

Curious. Did the tech say why you shouldn't use UltraSeal?

He just that the ultra solv was the best for granite. He said that ultraseal would buy you some time before the stain set in and ultra solv would penetrate deeper and do better. I'm confused. Can anyone recommend what would be best in this situation?
Thanks

Hi Ricky :)

If you have access to UltraSolv, use it. It is a premium solvent based sealer. More than likely, you also have a very porous granite. These may require several applications.

Thanks for the reply. I can get it online. The closest place to get it is about 120 miles from my house. I was just concerned about going over the top of the water based sealer but the tech support said it was ok. This forum is great. thanks for all the help.

Hi Ricky :)

That's what we're here for. Yes, it's OK to put a solvent base over a water based, but not the other way around. Of course, you can also put the same product over itself.
