We just installed slate in our entrance way (6 x 7) as well as around our fireplace and on the hearth. We are planning on sealing the slate. I've read conflicting about when to seal. Some have said that novice-grouters should pre-seal. Others have said its not necessary and may interfer with grouting.
Can anyone give me the facts about pre-sealing and grouting to help us make the best decision. Will pre-sealing make grouting easier? Will it cause problems with grouting? If you pre-seal, so you seal everything again after the grouting or just the grout? How long do you need to wait between pre-sealing and grouting and also between grouting and final sealing.
Thanks.

Presealing Will make grouting easier.
Are you planning on Using an Enhancer or just a sealer??

Most folks use enhancers these days to bring out the colors and grain of the slate.

I'm not sure about the type of sealer. I don't want a high glossy finish, but I wouldn't mind deepening the colors a bit.
Won't a sealer do that without adding the gloss?
