Ok - I would like some advise on sealing the slate walls of my shower/bath. I have been reading different threads and seem to have found some contradictory info. Some threads say not to use TileLab or Aquamix because they are not meant for showers, instead to use Stone Tech. But then others say they are fine, one recommended Aquamix Gold Ultra Seal. I just want to make sure that i choose something that will be effective. Any suggestions? Thanks - K

Hi Karyn, that's new to me. I use Aqua Mix stone enhancer usually for the slate and tumbled marble showers. I'll move ya over to the Resto Forum.

Hi Karyn,
I did a bunch of research on slate sealers for a shower and bathroom a couple of months ago. The project has been put on hold for now. Anyways, from what I could find, you'll want to get a sealer that is solvent based. TileLab is water based. I would assume that the Aquamix is water based. For me it was between the Stontech Enhancer Pro (solvent based) and HG Impregnator (solvent based). I decided to purchase the HG because it looked better and performed better (water bead test, ketchup, balsamic vinegar etc...). I will also be putting a coat of the HG Golvpolish on the walls to give it some shine. Won't be using the Golvpolish on the floor because it makes the surface slippery when wet. If you call Stonetech, they'll send you a couple of sample sized bottles so you can try them out for yourself. My tile store gave me a few samples of the HG.
Hope that helps a bit.
Dan
PS I had a thread in this forum on this topic. You may want to search for it to see if I missed anything above. :tup1:

I would have to disagree with Adverguy about the sealers, and water based sealers are highly recommended for exterior use.Solvent or water is only the medium used to dispense the polymer, and technology has closed the gap between solvent and water based sealers, now for enhancers solvent has a slight edge. Here's a link to Aquamix....http://www.aquamix.com/for_home_use/surface_finder/
