Please help. After finally having travertine tiles installed throughout my home, I was told by the installer to clean the floor with vinegar, before the floor was sealed. Needless to say, now my entire 1100 sqft of tile is etched and extremely dull!! I am devastated. I have been reading other threads in search for a solution, but I haven't found any. Is there a solution for my problem? Is there a cleaner I can use? Or will I have to have the floor honed? Please help me, not only did I have a million and one issues with the installer, but now the entire floor is etched and dull ;(

I shoule post this thread in the advice forum for all the posts on how nice their floor turned out after acid washing, and after all my posts not to do it.Well,it is possible to go over the floor with a buffer and horsehair pad, this might bring back some of the high hone, but i can't guarantee it,since each trav. is different.Honing would be the answer, and it shouldn't be too expensive since the floor is new,and should only need one grit to bring it back.Wouldn't hurt to get an estimate...and show it to your installer. :rolleyes:You should rinse the floor with a little ammonia water to prevent any more etching.

Did you use straight vinegar or vinegar and water. Some seal and enhance might do what you want . Try it on a sample peice that you have done the vinegar trick to. :tup1:

Thank you davestone. I can see the light now. I will look for someone in my area that can hone this floor. By the way, will the ammonia work on the floor eventhough this problem happened 1 day ago?

It sounds like you will have to have the whole floor honed. It will look great when they do this process. It is just expensive. Post where you are located and I will try to refer someone good in your area.
