View Full Version : How was your day?

We have a joke thread, JB's travels, custom pics of work, custom pics of familys, one that we are supposed to ignore, and a good diet thread.
We don't have one where you can just vent or gloat about how your day may have gone.
"How was your day John?"
Thanks for asking. I am working for some nice people on almost all of my jobs right now, most of my help is doing really well, within a week I will be past my recent flooring nightmare, all and all I can't really complain.
Went to a a place called Bubba Kahunas for dinner it was good.

How was my day? Why, thanks for asking.
All in all I had a pretty good day. I am currently doing a job for a very nice "mature" widow lady.
I do have a gripe though.
Due to the very high hack population in my area it is sometimes difficult to get some of the state of the art setting materials from my local supplier. Is a 50lb sack of Laticrete 255, or Custom ProLite too much to ask for? :bang:
Okay, I feel much better now. Thanks John.

Well, John, thanks for asking. Sounds like your's went well.
Hope you don't mind if I let off some steam. :blah:
The missus is gone for the week with her sisters and friends. So, I've been mister mom this week. Today, on my 40th b-day. I sent the kids off on their first day of school and took my 3 year old son with me for the rest of the day.
We grouted a small floor this morning. Talked with a GC about a small remodel job and went to another job to get some measurements (getting ready to work up an estimate tonight). Hooked up the trailer and drove 300 miles (in my new - used Ford F350 :) ) to return some tile from another job, then loaded up the wife's car to bring home (busted radiator :noid: ). Stopped at Sportsman's warehouse to get some archery supplies (my elk hunt started today  ). Got back to town and dropped off an estimate for another tile job. Then had cake (that my daughter had baked and who I flew off the handle at when I got home :bonk: ) and ice cream with my kids. And finally sat down at the computer to see what's new on the JB Forum since I hadn't been on here for awhile.
Whew ... time for some sleep.

Wrapped up a $500 job that's taken four days to put in, but I like the way it looks and I've already gotten $35K of referrals from the client. No complaints here.
I was supposed to get some more bidding done tonight, but decided to go to my 2 year-old's swimming lesson instead. No regrets there either. :king:
My wife asked me, as she was going to bed tonight, if we'd kissed each other yet today. Sleep's been a rare commodity of late and we're both pretty forgetful. I assured her that we had several times during the day and then I gave her another big one with a long embrace before she went off to bed.
So far this week, money's a little tighter than I might like, but it's still feeling pretty damn good to be me. :D
Thanks for asking John.

PS: Greg, Call Laticrete tomorrow and let them know you can't find their products in your area. I expect that you'll get a return phone call from their rep fairly soon after. I know my local Laticrete rep would carry a bag of thinset on his back to my jobsite if I needed it and the local suppliers weren't providing it. Don't know that I could say the same about anyone else's reps though.

Didn't even get out of the shower before getting a call that a carpenter wasn't at the right address of one job, and when he got to the right location, the materials that were supposedly at a jobsite for days wasn't going to arrive until the afternoon.

Had a pretty good day today. Two jobs were completed and lots of progress on another. Had to finish the two as I'm going out of town for a few days. After this JB break I just have to pack so I'll be ready to head out the door at 5:15am.

Seeing how you're on Long Island also, I'll assume this 7 hour trip was just a run to the local supermarket.
The only time traffic moves here is at 3am... .and when they're doing night construction on every parkway simultaneously, you wont even move then....
It was a hot and sweaty day today, but I got a lot done. :tup2:

Hah!
Supposed to settle on new, to me, home/shop on 9/14. Been packing 36 years worth of memories, furniture, tools, tools, tools, supplies, large jigs and fixtures, three desks, nine filing cainets, etc etc you get the picture.
Get a call at 4:30 from the local real estate person, there is a glich, she will be right over..........finally shows at 9:45.
Seems she did not execuite all paperwork properly. May lose the unique property which is perfectly suited for our multipurpose use.
Why is it that I seem to get very difficult information late on Friday when most responsible individuals will not be available till Monday.
Sort of a reality check on how well do I attend to my customers expectations I guess, dunno.

Alex, that is so true, but I was on my way to New Hampshire. Yesterday was one of those days where everything fell so perfectly in place for me and I made great time getting here.
Today so far is another good day. Although it's going to be a very warm day, we still plan to go hiking. My sister has a home in the woods up on a hill and it is absolutly beautiful here. We're so close to nature. I couldn't pay for a nicer place to stay.
I hope everyone has a good day too. :)

Tom,
With our last two real estate transactions, everybody involved was *available* during the weekend too, including a Notary. If your realtor has plans to enjoy the weekend and pick up things on Monday, I'd be on the phone reminding them that they don't get anything unless you close and if *THIS* doesn't close you'll be going to someone else. It's an honest threat which should put a little fire under their butt.
Best of luck, I'm pulling for you! :tup2"

Shaughnn;
Thank you! I appreciate your sentiment.
I know the RE folks are available............Was not thinking about an honest threat, more like declaring war. I wanted a lawyer and the state real estate commissioner for mal practice.
Got no patience for hacks of any kind. If they can't do the job properly just go away!
Just got a panic call from the sellers rep. Seems the other agent is going to sew this deal back together.
This is a one of a kind place with an oversized garage for the truck and shop plus a 2000 s.f. basement for my model trains in a quiet hidden neighborhood right off I-95 in tax free Del about 50K under market. Needless to say I was not happy. Waiting for redo faxes now.
Too old for this nonsense. May be I need to be more mature.

Down and Up since 1:30 AM Friday. Heard thunder when I got up around 12:30 and checked the internet - severe thunderstorm warning for the area. Watched a pretty snappy thunder storm come through, went to check the weather radar again - cable TV and therefore internet too was out.
Couldn't sleep, so made a bowl of popcorn and sat on the couch with a sleeping dog and ate the popcorn. Finally got sleepy, went back to bed, got up around 6:30 - no cable, no internet. Tried to call the cable service, got disconnected. Called a little later, left the info with the answering service.
Check later in the morning - major outage in the Clemson area. :(
Mid-afternoon - no cable/internet service, no sign of repair people. Wife calls cable company - "Have you reported it?" "Yes we have" "Then no need to report it again" (Previous experience - major outage, didn't call anymore, day later found out that outage was repaired and we had an additional problem. ) "Well, no one else in your neighborhood has reported a problem" (Actually, others had reported it.)
Upside - Celebrated Drew's 24th birthday with BBQ baby back ribs (4 racks). Everyone enjoyed it very much. Jeremy gnawed on a rib bone and ate watermelon on the rind. Big mess, lots of fun. :D
Downside - still no cable or internet. Wife calls again. Has a discussion with the answering service. Says we would at least like to get a call from the service dept. to let us know what was happening.
Saturday morning - Still no cable TV or internet. More calls. Finally see a service truck in the neighborhood Sat. afternoon. Leave for some errands, come back, some TV, some channels clear, others poor, others not at all. NO INTERNET!! :monster: Call the internet support number, nice technician, scan shows that only a couple of us in the neighborhood are having internet problems. Support will contact the cable company. Double check with the cable company, yes, the problem was reported by internet service person and the cable company has notified the repair person. Hear nothing from anyone Sat. night.
Sunday morning - Poor cable reception, no internet. Call again. They will send someone out right away. After lunch repair person finally calls, checks with us and "explains" some of the problems they are experiencing. Has to leave, though, because another area has people without cable. He finally comes back with another technician around 5:00 PM and suddenly, we have good cable TV reception and INTERNET service again.
I'm Happy, Frances is Happy. :D

On August 3, 1999, I fell down a 60 foot waterfall in Quetico Park, Canada, near the Boundary Waters. I spent 3 minutes at the bottom of lake. My dog drown. I had three blown disks and a dozen very deep squirting cuts. My wife and I were 2 days paddle from the nearest phone and had to self rescue in a busted up canoe without any gear.
So every day since August 4, 1999 has just been fabulous, thank you very much. I don't sweat the small stuff, and its all small stuff. Living on borrowed time, I suspect, and making every minute count.
I haven't had a bad day since.

my day suckes bad. went otu to check a tub hop i installed about 5 days ago. she says water is hot then cold on a single handle pf valve. I get there WOW it was so hot it burnt my arm. so i call PF they say i have to pull the vlalve out and flip this and that. I say no way jose and I can have my lawyer give ya a call. needless to say they installed the insdes wrong and are sending a vlalve. now i have to pop a hole in the closet and remove the damaged vavle out. not to mention the same house the shower pan has 2 spots that are holding water. Their garndson stepped in it while it was wet. so i wait till he gets home and wow the the 2 puddles match his feet perfect. so i say they have to pay me to retile it they say no.

If I can just hang on long enough, I"ll get to do these hacks work over again, this guy is going to put 12x12 honed travertine over a jersey mud job, you know that wont last too long :lol2: Other then that things are ok, kids are back to school, wheather has been great here lately.

I was supposed to get some work done at the cabin today. Took a few minutes break when a huge rain came and thought I might read the first chapter of a new book. Well, at 6PM I finished the 400 pager. Haven't been able to sit down and read like that in a long time. It was a good day. :)
I'm going to have a boatmans weekend and put new tile in the downstairs bathroom. Just finisyhed tearing out all the old tile and the raised platform that the toilet was sitting on. This had been the son's bedroom for quite awhile and he must have missed the toilet about half the time. We have been downstairs it that room for almost a year now and could never get rid of the urin stink. Well it is gone now and I guess I will have make sure I don't miss because there will be no kid to blame it on now.

Please fill in the blanks........details. How did you stablize your wounds? How much did the rural envirnoment aggravate you wounds? Did your wife have to paddle you for two days? You poor canine companion, were you able to recover him? How did you finally get help. What was the road to healing like? Lingering problems????

We had a wonderful day yesterday and an equally wonderful morning today. Megan, Drew, and Jeremy came over yesterday afternoon and stayed to watch Clemson almost lose to Florida State last night. I grilled bratwurst and hamburgers for our supper. It was a great evening. This morning Megan and Jeremy took Sam for a run with their dog and another friend and her dog. Afterwards, Megan stopped in for a while and we had a good time just sitting in the sunroom visiting and watching Jeremy. Nothing like a 14-month-old grandson to put a smile on your face.

Left em' a souvenir he did too.
I had a better weekend than my son and his girlfriend. They flew off the New York City for a weeding on Friday night. Flight thru Wash DC. Get into NY early in the morning and GF forgets purse on the shuttle train. They hang around airport to three hours and get it back. In meantime she calls and cancels all of her credit cards. They get into the city. Checking into hotel. and son realizes he doesn't have his wallet. Left it in the cab.
So now they are without any credit cards, cash, ID to get on the plane home etc. So Patti and I field calls, make calls, etc to get them into the hotel and wire money.
Cab driver calls his bank which calls him and they make contact and he gets wallet back.
He calls this morning with info on return flight. Pick us up at airport flight # etc. "Oh and if you need to talk to me use GF's phone # I lost my phone. "
Do kids every grow up? :blah:
