Last year, we laid nearly 400 square feet of 15 '' glazed ceramic tile. My husband used nonsanded charcoal gray grout because the grout lines were to be 1/8". The grout lines turned out more like 1/4 ". We used a sealant that wiped on the tiles with a spongelike pen application.

However, the grout immediately began to show a cloudy finish. We don't know what the source of the cloudy finish is - is it the bleach/soap mix I use to clean the tiles, the hard water residue (we have very hard water), dust/renovation residue that accumulated before we sealed (Las Vegas is extremely dusty), or incorrect sealant?

We recently found that the AquaMix Grout Deep Clean removes the haziness, so we are ready to take on othe deep cleaning process. However, what should we do to seal it correctly? And what was the source of the problem so it doesn't happen again?

We appreciate ANY advice!

Thanks!

Hazy grout could be efflorescence, which may return after it dries and you clean it,or latex haze, which you're removing now,and will remain gone, or sealer applied too thick, or not allowed to dry, which may be being removed by your cleaner, or at least the sealer not cured is.Now, i would use a penetrating, or impregnating sealer, after your grout dries, and i would use one of those little applicator bottles with the wheel on it,it's simple, and won't make a mess.Just be sure to remove any sealer that isn't soaked in by 5 minutes, with a dry towel.
