Has anybody had any experience of sealing Sutherland Slate. One lot is being laid on a step and the other lot is being laid on a stone floor indoors in a hall.
Some recommendations say lay slate seal on the floor after grouting and others say it spoils the effect of the slate which is a dark grey/green.
The one on the step is okay if not sealed but the one in the house could get mucky and obviously cannot be hosed down.
Any helpful comments please.

I don't know how much cleft is in the stone, but sealing before grouting can really help in clean up,keeping grout out of the clefts is impossible.Typically an enhancer is used, but an impregnating sealer will also do.I would do a small test to see which you like.
