Hi everyone,

I have some honed limestone tiles going into our bathroom floor this weekend. I assume it needs to be sealed. Do I need to seal it before install, or after install but before grout, or at the very end?

I tested the tile by pouring some water on it and letting it dry. It dried fine and didn't change color (which was a good sign).

I was going to purchase the products from this site but since I need it fast, can someone recommend another brand possibly from HD or Lowes? I'm in S. California.

Thanks

They have Miracle at HD, and Aquamix at Lowes, i like both.I preseal some lighter limestones right outta the box because of their tendency to absorb dirty fingerprints and such.

is it common practice to seal (natural stone)

or use grout release (ceramic / porcelain)

BEFORE installing tiles or before grouting to assist with grout clean up and preserve the color of the tiles?

Seems for most of us DIY folks, the grout and clean up thereof is the biggest headache of this process. :crap:

Well, yes John, buuuuuttttt some stones like some polished marble, granite, and even some travertines won't take a sealer so it's fruitless. But yes, when in doubt use a grout release, don't allow the grout to get too hard,(when it starts lightening,on the face of the tile, start wiping) don't run out too much, and get your buckets of water ready in advance. :tup2:

Thanks for the replies.

I purchased some Stonetech "HeavyDuty Sealer" and the salesman said I can use that to seal the tile and grout at the same time.

Is that correct?

Trask,
I'm confused. You told me in my post to seal the limestone after the install.
