I installed honed 16x24 blue limestone and jerusalem stone on a entire basement floor. I installed Noble Seal CIS over the entire floor before installing the tile. Problem is, after about 3wks to a month after the homeowners moved in I got a call about the tile having a gloss finish. I didn't seal the floor yet (builder was way behind schedule and didn't want to inconvenience the homeowner) They think I applied an enhancer, not the case.

Anyway, any idea what could cause this?

I naturally assumed it was the chemicals they used for cleaning. they deny using anything other than soap and water. I want to complete my job and seal the floor so what could I use to strip this gloss, if anything

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Travis :)

It sounds like the floor is being coated with a soap film. They should be using a tile & stone specific neutral pH cleaner. No residue is left behind, and most also contain dirt surfactants.

Any idea what would be the best way to strip the glossy film in order to reseal. I'm thinking that whatever I use will have to dry for a couple days before I can seal it.. (true?) Time sensitive: Homeowners will be out of town for only a week.

Travis
They got the soap on the stone and being as it was not treated with anything I'm going to guess that you are going to have a bear of a time getting the tile back to the honed finish.
Was it the home owner or the contractors cleaning crew that did it?
Good Luck

Soap does give it a nice shine.

Hi Travis :)

I would suggest doing a TEST with Prosoco's All Surface Cleaner. Start with a 2 part water to 1 part All Surface Cleaner. Allow to dwell about 10 minutes, follow with agitation, and remove dirty solution with a wet vac. Rinse well!
